Marius Nyras Past

2112: Marius is born as the youngest son of Renus Nyras and Valetta Nyras. He has three older siblings, two sisters and a brother. They all live on the colony of Aephus and have a rather peaceful life. His sisters are both sixteen years in Myrean’s case and fifteen years in Laxin’s case older than Marius. Harald is four years older than Marius.

2127 - Age 15: Marius starts boot camp and nothing special happens up until this point. The family notices a few changes in their daughter Laxin, but nothing major. Since nobody really had any symptoms or onsets of Corpalis Syndrome. They do not see her deterioration so quickly. Marius has a knack for ships and shuttles, preparing to get into a career as a shuttle pilot. While his brother is more into navigation, they kind of have the same career evaluation.

2134 - Age 22: Marius’ sister Laxin dies after spending the last five years in a hospital. The main cause of death is the Corpalis Syndrome she suffered from. The family gets tested and finds out that they all carry the gene and can have it at any given moment. Although there is a passive and active gene, that would determine if they would get it like Laxin did or more like a passive trait. Marius doesn’t really spent time thinking about it, he is still far too young to understand that. Even at 22, he has a life ahead of him.

2149 - Age 37: Marius rises in ranks and becomes an instructor for a small military base in addition to his shuttle pilot and repairman work. In this year his other sister Myrean dies while being shot by a batarian terrorist in the head. Marius has no real reaction towards the death of his sister since they had a rather large age gap and by the time Marius was old enough, they were already out and doing their jobs. So their deaths almost gave him no reaction.

2157 - Age 45: The First Contact war breaks out, and Marius is tasked with repairing shuttles and bringing ground troops on to Shanxi. He works closely with his brother, who just hacks into the Blackwatches ships mainframe and warns them of an oncoming collision. Marius has no idea what happened and is actually surprised when the Blackwatch just stands in their door one day and recruits Haral. Marius is glad they didn’t want him, he doesn’t really like being the center of attention.

2158 - Age 46: Marius has a short affair with a turian woman named Cloria, the short affair produces a child, but he has no idea about her until the Reaper War ends. So it wasn’t like he didn’t care, he actually didn’t know about her.

2161 - Age 49: Marius is Irius instructor during his short time in the military. There was never an argument or anything, but at one point in his years in the military, Irius accidentally shoots Marius due to him being unable to handle a gun. This happens in the later years. 

2167 - Age 55: After the shooting incident Irius leaves the Military and Marius gives him permission to leave, since he could see the young turian not being happy. He got a bit of stern talking from Haral’s boss and long term friend Renius, but he stood his ground and told him that his children should decide for themselves what they wanted to do.

2168 - Age 56: Marius' father Renus Nyras dies of old age. Nothing significant happened this year.

2172 - Age 60: Marius’ mother Valletta Nyras dies of old age. Marius also marries a woman, despite not being sexually attracted to her. He does love her romantically and they have a rather happy marriage, he works as a shuttle repair and occasional pilot. He spends most of his time on Palaven and rarely visits other spaces. He is happy with his life and nobody really knows that he is actually interested in men, he knows how the turian society would see this.

2183 - 2186:

Nothing happens up until the Reaper War. Or nothing significant for Marius.

Post 2186 - Age 74: After the Reaper War Marius has spent a year in a coma since the shuttle he used to repair other shuttles was shot down by a reaper destroyer. He was believed dead  but he survived. Having lost one arm and one leg, most of his inner organs and almost half of his face, Marius is forced into a medically induced coma to prevent him from getting into a shock-like state due to the immense pain. Marius is woken up after a year, he has severe problems adjusting and a minor case of amnesia. He has no idea what exactly happened during the night he got shot down.

Marius’ Powers

Descriptions of Powers-- None of these I have made up; they are all canon and described in the books.  Not headcanon, just plain VC canon.

The Mind Gift

The Mind Gift is a very intricate power, one that not many immortals have or realize their true potential in. Within the category of the Mind Gift, Marius has the ability to read thoughts as they happen, probe the mind for things within the subconscious, select images, send thoughts of his own into minds, move objects, and cloak his mind from being probed entirely (B&G pg. 165-167).

The Fire Gift

Marius first discovered this power when he was ‘battling’ Eudoxia (B&G pg. 163). In his anger, he wished one of her boys burnt, who promptly burst into flames. Marius practiced and discovered that his power had no limit of space, meaning it doesn’t matter how far something is from him (B&G pg. 165). Marius does this again to Eudoxia, burning multiple vampires at the same time (B&G pg. 180), so he is clearly capable of sending out that force in multiple directions with accuracy.

The Cloud Gift

This was one of the later powers to come to Marius, or rather, one of his later powers to realize (B&G pg. 208). With this power, he is able to think of a destination and move there faster than the eye can see.

The Killing Gift

Marius didn’t even know that he possessed this one until he used it on Eudoxia (B&G pg. 163). Using it, he repelled her attacks and knocked her down to the floor, causing enough pain in her when he lashed out that she lost her strength and would go weak each time he mentally struck out with this gift. Marius described this power as immense and powerful, crushing and burning pressure (B&G pg. 165). Testing the power out later on rats, Marius determined that the power would explode a mortal from the inside since the rats had exploded (B&G pg. 166).

The Healing Gift

A power to heal fast. After his first time drinking Akasha’s blood after the incident with the Elder, Marius goes home and drives a knife through his hand, witnessing it heal over completely immediately (B&G pg. 83-84). The same went for after he was buried by ice in QotD. As soon as he stepped out of the ice, his body began to heal and his bone mend.

The Speed Gift

Related to the Cloud Gift, perhaps, but Marius can move faster than the eye can see. He seems to vanish and reappear.

The Spell Gift

This power is used to hypnotize and put a ‘spell’ over mortals. Marius uses this a lot to gain the trust of his slaves, putting a spell on them or coaxing their mind into believing something (or disbelieving something). It is how he gets what he wants or escapes suspicion.

BUT HE NEVER USES HIS POWERS UNLESS HE HAS TO, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO HURTING OTHERS.  HE WILL USE THE CLOUD AND SPELL/MIND GIFTS WITHOUT ISSUE, BUT HURTING OTHERS JUST TO HURT THEM OR SHOW OFF ISN’T HIS THING.
