God is good.

I sat down tonight, in need of some guidance. When this occurs, I literally open up my bible to a random page and by some miracle I get my answer. By miracle, I mean God. Tonight was nothing different. I have struggled recently with being content with my life. Everyone and their brother is either pregnant, or engaged. I want that stage of my life to start already. I know, 20 years old and wanting to be older. I will soon regret those wishes, I am sure. But with those concerns and fears and anxieties on my heart, I opened up to Mark 4:35. This is when Jesus calms the storms, and asks his disciple "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?". Boom. Brick flung at my face. I need to have faith in HIS timing, and HIS plan. Not mine. God is so incredible. Praise Jesus for Him and His wonderful ability to get through my thick skull.

Mark 4:35, 37-38, 40-41

35:  And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

37:  And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

38:  And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow:  and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

40:  And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful?  how is it that you have no faith?

41:  And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

This is the first verse, well, set of verses, I've heard in church that I've actually been inclined to write about almost immediately.  Pastor Jay explained this passage as people having a certain expectation from God--they expect Him to show He cares in a very explicit and certain way.  So when He doesn't, people view that as neglect and their faith falters.  They ask, "Where was God?  Why didn't God do this or that?  Why would God do this?  Why is He making me suffer?"

That's not how God works though.  I wouldn't say it's ever in God's intention to make us suffer.  Hardships are a part of life.  I'd even go out on a limb to say they're necessary.  And God will test us sometimes, that is entirely true too.  But he will never abandon us, and the richness that He holds for us in our future is HIs gift to us for our faithfulness--enduring faithfulness.  The devil will come to try to steal your faith and take you from God's power and protection.  But you have to fight him off.  You have to remain faithful to the Lord.

I think it's interesting how Pastor explained these verses.  Sometimes, we ask too much or ask wrongly of God.  We ask Him to fix our problems even after we have been given the supply He promised us.  We act helpless and ask God to do it all for us.  Heal us.  Lead us.  Fix everything for us.  And we often forget that God has a plan for us that we must rise to and fulfill.  Being a child of God doesn't mean having "Daddy" around to fix and do everything for us.  It means rising up to our Holy Father's expectations and plans for us.  It means actively practicing our faithfulness to Him and it means looking to Him for help and knowing He will empower and move us to act.  Remember Deuteronomy 7:9.

Deuteronomy 7:9:  Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.
