Ambassador is the only previously known character to the Trek universe, to be featured in the new series. James Frain plays him, taking over from Mark Leonard in the prime timeline, and Ben Cross in the Kelvin timeline.
Sarek, is a Vulcan ambassador, marrying a human wife, and is known as the father of Spock. His link to this series though, is that he saved a young Michael Burnham (our lead) and brought her up as a ward.
James Frain recently appeared in GOTHAM as a regular, and has appeared in many other series, including the likes of 24.
