On Sunday afternoon @sashaaarons and I attended the biannual Mark-It that takes place in Federation Square. The market is invites 100s of Australian Designers to show and sell their wares under the unique architecture of FED Square. Not only is it an excellent place to spend all your money, but also support the awesome design community Melbourne has to offer.
From a designers point of view it was a really uplifting experience to see the how each individual was able to come together to support each other despite the differences in their wares.
While a lot of the people selling would be better described as something other than a ‘designer’, every element of their visual identity was crafted around their creations, and I believe this is definitely a form of design.
Reading Sasha’s post on this event, I was really excited to see that she pondered on the line between art and design. This event really reinforced to me that even if they are not exactly the same, they definitely coexist especially in the context of the people and their products at this market.
While in the Fed Square space, I also took a moment to look at some letterforms I could see in the atriums glass walls and windows. Funny to see that this is something everyone in our course does automatically now.
