#Mark_Twain is said to have said, "If you #tell_the_truth you don't have to remember anything," meaning if you tell a lie you have to remember what lie you told to who. This truism can also be expressed as, "it takes more effort to lie than it does to #tell_the_truth." https://www.instagram.com/p/CINjEk4n281/?igshid=nhlga9a9hfer

Satirical and nostalgic, Mark Twain’s epic masterpiece, the Adventures of Tom Sawyer, brings out the inequities of adult reality from beneath the innocence of childhood.
In the fictional town of St. Petersburg, Missouri, along the Mississippi River, Tom Sawyer lives with his Aunt Polly and half-brother Sid. As the novel begins, we catch him stealing from the jam jar and narrowly escaping being hit. But his life is full of adventurous episodes. What happens as he moves from one escapade to another—accompanying Huckleberry Finn to the graveyard at night where they witness a trio of grave robbers; falling in love with Becky Thatcher and being shunned; enjoying the new found freedom and then being struck by the idea of appearing at his own funeral; hunting for buried treasure in a haunted house with Huck and so on..? The Adventures of Tom Sawyer has been widely adapted into feature films and television series. it is followed by Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Google Doodle Celebrates Mark Twain
Today’s Google Doodle celebrates Mark Twain’s birthday with a great doodle of Tom Sawyer and the iconic white fence from the story.
Twain was born (as Samuel Langhorne Clemens) on November 30, 1835, during a flyby of Halley’s Comet, and died 75 years later, right after the comet’s next pass. Happy Birthday, Mark Twain!

Now I come to an important matter — as I regard it. In the year ‘74 the young woman copied a considerable part of a book of mine on the machine. In a previous chapter of this Autobiography I have claimed that I was the first person in the world that ever had a telephone in the house for practical purposes; I will now claim — until dispossess — that I was the first person in the world to apply the type-machine to literature. That book must have been The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I wrote the first half of it in ‘72, the rest of it in ‘74. My machinist type-copied a book for me in ‘74, so I concluded it was that one. That early machine was full of caprices, full of defects — devilish ones. It had as many immoralities as the machine of today has virtues. After a year or two I found that it was degrading my character, so I thought I would give it to Howells. He was reluctant, for he was suspicious of novelties and unfriendly toward them, and he remains so to this day. But I persuaded him. He had great confidence in me, and I got him to believe things about the machine that I did not believe myself. He took it home to Boston, and my morals began to improve, but his have never recovered.

Es ist bedauerlich, dass die Menschen so viele gute Sachen verwerfen, nur weil sie ungesund sind. Mark Twain Spruch Mark_Twain
