N.E.W.Ts Read-a-thon 2019: Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.
This was amazing? The premise of the book is the question: what happens to all those kids that find a door to another world and, eventually, find themselves back in this one?
Truly a fantastic concept and McGuire takes you places you don't even realize you are going. The representation is great. She has POC's as main characters. She also has ace and transgendered main characters which I love so much.
The story is a lyrical fantasy, a horror and a murder mystery. You are dropped into this world that is complete ,and, like Nancy, you have to figure out what it is. There's no info dump, just pieces of knowledge that you string together.
My favorite character is Jack. I can't even begin to say how much I loved her. I want so badly to have more of Jack's story.
The writing is haunting and atmospheric. McGuire can turn a phrase and I gasped out loud a few times when reading. I didn't give it a 5 because I sort of figured out halfway who was the killer but I think that wasnt necessarily the most important part. I just wanted to be a bit more surprised.
Highly recommend.
