Avicii, the ‘Jim Morrison of the EDM Generation,’ Dead at 28
Avicii, the Swedish DJ and producer born Tim Bergling and best known for hits like “Wake Me Up” and “Le7els,” has died in Oman.
He was 28 and the cause of death has not been determined, his rep said in statement carried by Rolling Stone.
”The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time,” it read.
”RIP Avicii,” Luke Potter tweeted. “Your music lives on.”
Avicii released two LPs, 2013’s True and 2015’s Stories, before retiring from touring in 2016. An EP, Avīci (01), came out in 2017.
The DJ was the “Jim Morrison of the EDM generation,” Markus Schultz said.
”His work not only influenced the dance music industry, but also was a gateway to so many new fans that will be the backbone of our scene for many years,” he tweeted.
The Cheat Codes said on Twitter that Avicii was “one of the main reasons we got into dance music” and called his work “a gift to the world.”
Also on Twitter, Noah Cyrus called the DJ “a huge musical inspiration to me and many others,” while Imagine Dragons said, “the world was a happier and fuller place with (Avicii’s) presence and art” in it.
”I would have enjoyed nothing more than ripping into Avicii well into and beyond our 60s,” Goat lord tweeted.
”Taken away from us far too young. I know he’s at peace somewhere up there getting the last laugh that I spelled his name right this time.”
