another reason its actually really nice that shules didn't have any kids in canon is that it subverts the expectations the audience has had since the beginning of the show. you take one look at shawn and juliet from the moment they meet, and think "oh, obviously they're gonna get together, have a wedding, and have babies" but then they get married in a spur of the moment in the first movie, and they don't have kids. meanwhile, lassie, who, unless you still remember in season 1 when lassie says victoria was wrong about him not wanting kids, you wouldn't expect would have a baby, nor would a casual viewer expect it from marlowe, who is in jail for the first season we know her. but they have a lovely wedding and have a baby together. and the most important part here is that both couples are happy. shawn and juliet don't regret not having kids. they're happy as they are, and lassie and marlowe are happy as they are, and its all so great to see

YESSSSSS my fav queer couple!!! I sometimes forget Marlowe isn't canonically bi/pan lmao. She just give off such strong vibes.

I also headcanon that they got some gender fuckery happening as well. Like Marlowe calls Lassie her wife and he calls her his husband sometimes. Just because.
