Obviously still needs editing. Hope this is a good start!
Tommy knows this is a simple call to make. There's no doubt Bobby will answer and be happily available to help. It's one of the reasons his name appears on his screen right now and about whom Tommy thought first when he started spiraling. So why are Tommy's fingers so shaky against his phone screen? He's flown through fields of war but cannot make a freaking call?
He closes his eyes and lets his thumb press the call button. It doesn't even ring twice: "Hello, Tommy," Bobby answers as predicted. His voice slowly cracks Tommy's insecurity apart. "Feeling remorse already?" It makes Tommy chuckle, relax.
"No. None of that." He's able to act casual. "No offense, though," Tommy adds.
He'd have to record Bobby's deep, soft chuckles so he can replay them whenever he finds himself in a situation like this again. "None taken. Anything I can help with?"
I need you. I need you to protect me and tell me everything's okay.

"Nostalgia," Bobby cuts through his day dream. Tommy watches the muscles in his arm dance as he whisks a sauce, but he nods in agreement. "I've seen that one before."
"I don't want to linger, Bobby. I needed to be around people who've seen me…" He walks closer to the kitchen and leans his hip against the counter. He scoffs: "-be vulnerable, I guess."
"Well. I remember our conversation before you decided to leave. That was brave. And I hope everyone at the 217 is treating you nicely," Bobby adds, sounding worried as if he's making up that Tommy's coming over to complain about them. Tommy's hands come up at his mid-section in defense.
"Oh, no. Not at all!" He waves them around before deciding he should settle his hands into his pockets. He explains: "They're great. And I know everyone here would have been as well. It was really about the position opportunity. Flying has been something I needed to give away when I came back from my last enlistment. Too much trauma around it." Bobby nods along and Tommy knows he could keep blabbering for hours without feeling judged. Which suddenly has his heart racing again when he remembers why he drove himself over in the first place.
"They did drag me into the dating app world. I only downloaded one, to be clear." He chuckles while Bobby seems to keep waiting for the "but". Tommy brings his hand to his neck, scratches at the shame bugs running along his skin and he tries to formulate the issue in his mind.

Can't wait to finish this one! I'm inspired. 🩷
