embarrassing story time!! so in one of my comm theory classes in freshman year, we had to do a report on non-verbal communication. i was assigned to discuss chronemics (basically the study of time and the role it plays in communication) and i was killing it u kno like everyone was understanding n seemed interested etc etc and then it reached the point where i had to give examples. so i was like, u kno how in our culture (in our country specifically), we say we’ll meet at a given time but everyone knows that we’re actually arriving an hour later? we didn’t discuss that or agree to meet an hour later but everyone just /knows/. (2/n)then i said another example could be in a class. like if u have a professor who’s always 30 minutes late, you just /know/ that you can use those 30 minutes to also be late. maybe buy food. maybe you’d even not go to class at all bec what’s the point if ur prof’s barely there?? & i was talking rly fast without thinking until i realized that half the class was missing. the half who were there were all eating. i’d actually been describing my professor this entire time.
