A brave group of elderly people speaking up in Puerta del Sol against La Ley Mordaza or The Gag Order which was introduced in 2015 and restricts protest and recording police activities. It's hard to believe such undemocratic laws can be so easily introduced in Europe but they can. I shook some of their hands and continued on to an event, #thequeenofireland which the #irishembassy had organised ahead of #humanrightsday. The film focused on the #marriageequalityact of 2015 and #humanrights and #equalrights Just like the banning of #ulysses and marriage equality in Ireland times change and hopefully in time, Spain will rethink their laws that stifle #freedomofspeech and #freedomofexpression Tonight, I watched as about 40 officers quickly arrived to deal with a person of colour and have been officially warned about publishing pictures of the incident. In the past the police have deleted my pictures and on one occasion even held me down as they deleted my pictures. Few #bodycams are visible in Spanish streets and I witnessed none in today's incident and I believe if more people pointed cameras at questionable policing today, there would be little questionable policing tomorrow but I'm afraid I will be much older, like the brave group in the picture, by the time that ever happens. #eulaws #eulaw #laleymordaza #lamordaza #democracy #undemocratic #georgefloyd https://www.instagram.com/p/CXjv5P5IIDO/?utm_medium=tumblr
