they sure are, but he went about it in the most assholish way imaginable when v was nothing but kind and polite and apologetic to him and didnt even stop to consider v might be hiding shit with good intentions or at least for a reason, namely to preserve rika's good image that yoosung so loved.
plus yeah he stopped rika in v’s good ending but in SEs he helped send rika to alaska without, yknow, asking questions. suspecting things. doing what he always did and blindly (ha) defending rika, and throughout v’s route he still defends rika when initially presented evidence that she’s Not Great, only until its literally the only option does he realise she might be Bad.
Why does Yoosung need to entertain the idea that V has good intentions, tho? I will agree that Yoosung isn’t very considerate of what Vis going through. A big flaw of Yoosung’s is his difficulty understanding thatnot everyone deals with things or expresses themselves the same way he does. ButI wouldn’t say he does it “in the most assholish way imaginable”. Yoosung isusually fairly civil with V in chatrooms. Yoosung will question him, and when Vavoids answering Yoosung becomes frustrated and sometimes lashes out. It’s not likehe’s attacking V without reason the second he enters a chatroom. Yoosung haslegitimate concerns about what V is up to and the decisions he’s making for theRFA, and Yoosung is literally the only one willing to persistently questionhim. The other members believe V because they like him, which is somethingYoosung actually points out. I think the reason why Yoosung takes such a hardstance against V is because of how often everyone dismisses Yoosung’s grievances,which only makes him more defensive and more insistent (guess that’s somethingwe have in common). Everyone else is willing to believe that V has goodintentions and they roll their eyes at Yoosung’s totally valid points againsthim. There’s no need for Yoosung to think that V has good intentions becauseeveryone else already does it and will rarely consider any other possibility,which is incredibly frustrating
Yoosung is very much ruled by his emotions, which can alsobe a big flaw at times, but even so he’s more mature than people give himcredit for. As much as he’ll rant and rave about V, he on more than one occasionwill assure MC that she should take some things with a grain of salt. He tells herthat he has personal issues with V, but he doesn’t necessarily want MC to thinkhe’s a terrible person, because even in his angriest moments I don’t thinkYoosung truly thinks that either. Yoosung actually really wants to trust V asmuch as the others do, but he doesn’t feel like he’s been given a reason to dothat
As for the Secret Endings, I mean yeah I think we can allagree that they’re garbage and that Rika being shipped off to Alaska withouthaving to face any consequences for her numerous crimes is a terrible way toend her story. But anyway, we’re not talking about writing issues right now. I don’tknow if it’s fair to blame Yoosung for sending Rika to Alaska. He probablyshould have questioned things, yes, but like, it’s not his fault he was lied toand had things hidden from him. And the thing is, the lies he was told aboutRika fit into what he desperately wanted to believe about her. They wereexactly what he wanted to hear. They seriously downplayed her role in creatingMint Eye and hid a lot of her crimes from him and basically allowed him tothink that Rika was used and victimized. Yoosung spends most of the SE’sfeeling conflicted and painful, because he’s so happy to have Rika back but she’sso obviously been through shit and will likely never be the same person again.Even if Yoosung could think clearly enough right now to question things, whowould even have time to answer him? The rest of the RFA is busy trying to cleanup this huge mess, except maybe Zen who knows as little as Yoosung does. No oneshould have lied to Yoosung in the first place, and it’s not his fault they did
And yes, in V’s route Yoosung doesn’t believe that Rika isbad right away. Why the fuck does anyone expect him to, tho? People get on hiscase about this all the time and I can understand the frustration given what weknow about Rika, but y’all need to try to put yourselves in Yoosung’s shoes.There’s a sense of desperation in the way Yoosung tries to justify and defendRika, because he is desperate.Yoosung loved Rika and as far as hewas concerned she was a fucking angel, it’s not going to be easy for him toturn against her the moment he hears something negative about her. He’s indenial. He’s confused and in pain and he doesn’t want to think that the personhe most loves and admires was not who he thought she was. Just try to imagine what that must feel like for him! His entire world is crashing down around him and he’s desperately trying keep it intact! His reaction is perfectly understandable, honestly, and it’s only an initial reaction. Once hesorts out his feelings he is able to accept the truth and do what should havebeen done about Rika in the first fucking place, despite how much he stillcares for her and despite the fact that this whole situation is killing him
Look man, the point of this blog isn’t to say that Yoosungis completely without flaw and that everything he says/thinks/does is right100% of the time. The point of this blog is to say that the way Yoosung feelsis entirely understandable and valid, given the situation from his perspectiveand given the little information he does have, which most of the fandom refusesto acknowledge because they don’t want to try to see things from Yoosung’sperspective, usually due to their protectiveness of V
