I guess you could tell the writer was struggling with the finale because the quality truly tanked in the last 2 eps. the way we perceived ep 19 was going to depend on how well ep 20 paid off, and it didn't.
I hold a lot of love for the show, although it was never perfect. Frankly, ep 8 was a mess, and I say this a queer person. Every time Vincenzo was like "oh the mafia doesn't do this or that" I admit I burst out laughing. He's the big, bad wolf according to PJB so the whole pretending the mafia has some sort of honour code like the Sicilian cavalleria in circa 1300 was hilarious.
It seems to be almost impossible for kdramas to have satisfying endings, I honestly don't know why but I've watched my fair share in the past, what, 10 years or so and the times I was satisfied can be counted on one hand. So all in all I guess I was not surprised PJB failed at this, but it still stings. It doesn't matter what genre you think the show is (defying genre is kind of the point of this drama but I digress), it's a fact Cha-young was benched and Han-seo was done dirty. Being a sociologist I can assure you, this shit is as omnipresent as it is bad, trite and boring.
That said, I am still very attached to Vincenzo and Cha-young as a couple and characters, so I will be carrying them with me after this, knowing their potential in the end was only partly realised.
I really had fun the past few weeks, and I don't take that for granted, so I want to thank you all for bearing with my shit posts and yelling, and for letting me have this little escapade. Grazie!
