What are y'alls thoughts on Ball Lighting? A fascinating subject. Ball lightning is an unexplained and potentially dangerous atmospheric electrical phenomenon. The term refers to reports of luminescent, spherical objects that vary from pea-sized to several meters in diameter. Scientific data on natural ball-lightning remains scarce, owing to its infrequency and unpredictability. Though usually associated with thunderstorms, the phenomenon lasts considerably longer than the split-second flash of a lightning bolt. Laboratory experiments can produce effects that are visually similar to reports of ball lightning, but how these relate to the natural phenomenon remains unclear. Meet KRUSTY - NASA’s solution to providing electricity ⚡️ to colonists on Mars and the Moon. (Yes, KRUSTY is a reference to the Simpsons TV show!) KRUSTY - which stands for Kilopower Reactor Using Stirling Technology - is a prototype small fission nuclear ☢️ reactor that uses the heat 🔥 from radioactive decay to generate electricity. . Utilizing a Stirling Engine with melted liquid sodium to transfer the reactor core heat to provide rotary motion, these types of engines can generate about 5.5 kilowatts of power ⚡️. . Five or six KRUSTYs as tall as 11 feet could provide enough energy for an outpost on the Red Planet. . KRUSTY could be scheduled to fly to Mars as early as 2022. . Do you like "The Martian" movie ? Space engineer Aline Decadi tells us what she thinks about this space movie :
"I'm in love with Stars Wars, but this is much more than a movie... It's a space opera ! I loved The Martian, a positive space adventure movie, and quite realistic. The main character played by Matt Damon acts like a real space engineer doing his work : he makes theories, he tests, he makes mistakes, he corrects, he retries... In comparison, I liked Gravity but I think it does not really support the space sector, it's very stressful even if it's very beautiful. I also liked Interstellar, but The Martian is more attractive to me now !"
