December 2, 2019 - Baillon’s Crake or Marsh Crake (Porzana pusilla)
These small crakes are found in southeastern Australia, southern Africa, central Eurasia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia. They inhabit wetlands, including swamps, lakes, billabongs, and rivers. Their diet is made up of insects, crustaceans, snails, and other invertebrates. Pairs incubate the eggs in shallow cup or platform nests built from dry rushes, grasses, and weeds. Both parents care for the chicks.
