Ten Years Of Pat's Walking Photos!
September 17, 2009 - September 17, 2019
Today's Walking Photos: Okay, so ten (10) feels like a significant number. It was ten years ago today that I decided to go on a walk and take a photo of something along the way. If you click here, you'll see that the first something was a banana plant. And if you click here to see all of the yearly anniversary posts, you'll see that when I hit the Year 1 mark I went back to that selfsame banana plant for a reprise photo.
In subsequent years on this anniversary, I've felt a bit of pressure to do something special to mark the occasion. That was the case again this year, so today I headed over to a park I'd never visited before, Marshall Park in Southwest Portland. It's not far from my house, but it's 25-plus acres of trails and forest that were new to me. And while it wasn't a gloriously sunny day, I at least lucked out with a nice break from the rain and I really had a very nice time there. In the first photo you see the crude "10" that I crafted from fallen leaves to mark my anniversary. I'm happy to say that no one happened by while I was creating that little masterpiece; I would've been mortified, proud though I may be of this milestone. The last photo shows a quasi-waterfall in Tryon Creek, which runs through the park.
Today I took a look at the walk-tracking app I use on my phone, and it says that over all of the time I've been using it, I've walked 2,603 miles. That's actually a good bit less than my total mileage over the 10 years of the Walking Photos, because I know I didn't start using an app to track my walks until maybe 3 or 4 years into this thing. So hey, maybe it's 3,000 miles. Not too shabby.
Before I sign off for today and embark on Year 11, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who looks at my goofy Walking Photos. I'm just gonna recyle some words I've used in prior anniversary posts:
Whether you drop by randomly and just glance, or you see something you like and then you keep looking and then you become a follower – I’m grateful to all of you. I mean, of course my favorites are the people who follow, and then my favorite favorites are the followers who take the time to comment on my posts, reblog them, or simply heart them. It’s honestly a big deal for me to know that one of my posts made an impression on you. Going a step further, please absolutely feel free to get in touch with me via asks or messaging, for any reason – send me questions, thoughts, reflections, ideas and even jokes. I really really love hearing from you folks, and I wish it happened a lot more often than it does. So come at me! And if you’re feeling particularly supportive of my exploits, tell your friends about the Walking Photos – maybe even drop a line to Tumblr Staff and tell ‘em just how much you love this blog!
