Hi. I read the "Twilight and Cherilee are everything teachers shouldn't be" and am confused. It's been a long while since I watched the show, and I'm curious about why you support that statement.
Well, for starters, I don’t think Twilight should have any authority over anyone anywhere. At all. Twilight’s a terrifying person who’s resorted to magical brainwashing at least twice (when frankly once would be too many) and may or may not have murdered a room full of Pinkie Pie clones. Most of her “teaching” Starlight Glimmer seems to have boiled down to interfering in her business (the Trixie episode), flaunting her in front of Celestia to prove what a “great teacher” she is (same episode, and passive-aggressively ridiculing her beliefs (the annual summer Hearth’s Warming Eve episode.)
And in her defense, it’s how she was taught. She was mentored by Celestia and all that this implies; she idolized Cadence and her ability to Care Bear Stare people. I get why she is the way she is. Doesn’t make me like her or all the newfound authority that’s been heaped on her.
Cheerilee’s just an awful, awful teacher. She’s repeatedly let the other students bully the CMC right in front of her, let Diamond Tiara insult Apple Bloom’s grandmother without a word, has yet to really step in when they’ve needed her, and that time the three of them got in a physical fight right in front of her, didn’t bother to break it up at all.
I don’t know why this show is so bad at portraying teachers, but there you go.
