Fic: Holiday Tradition

Stanley, that smells amazing.

Good, cuz you’re going to be eating it for a week.

What?

It’s the first night of Hanukkah.

So? Did you get out the menorah?

Nah, it’s in a box… somewhere…

Well, good, I guess. I mean, I forgot to get…

Don’t sweat it, Sixer. I mean it. I haven’t given a Hanukkah gift in decades. Nobody to give em to. Well, not for a while there. They were always kinda crappy anyways.

I suppose I got out of the habit, too. Ma would always give socks, but you never knew which day. But then what does this have to do with Hanukkah?

Well… a couple years after… I pushed you, I just got really homesick. I hadn’t really been that nostalgic after Dad kicked me out, but being with all your stuff for so long…

It was about this time of year. I just went out and bought the only brisket I could find. It was huge. I cooked it up with onions and ate it all week.

You always would end up eating half the thing yourself when Ma would cook brisket.

Heh, yeah. Helped with bulking up for boxing matches. It wasn’t until I saw the decorations on clearance that I realized it had been during Hanukkah. Got a chuckle out of that, and it kinda became my own thing.

Well, then, maybe you’ll be happy to hear that there were a couple bags of gelt in the latest care package from the kids.

You don’t say? I bet I could find a dreidel somewhere…

So you can clean me out of my gelt before I can eat it again?

C'mon, Stanford, where’s your love of tradition?

But maybe I’ll go see if the dreidel is in there with it. Call me when dinner’s ready.

I won't have the time to submit for the first day but this is how I believe Tom and Janna met; they both go to the same Hot Topic and reached for the last bottle of pink hair dye, they decide to dye their hair together.

It’s not even Jantom week yet and we already have content for the first days prompt. That’s just awesome!
