Buy me a ko-fi!
Mina has never understood the hype around celebrities and hadn’t understood the concept of being completely starstruck by someone until today. It’s not that she doesn’t keep up with pop culture - actors, actresses, singers, and models - or has a complete disinterest in it because she does. After all, it wouldn’t make sense for her to remain in the dark about celebrity culture when she works at Rosé, one of the most well-known beauty and fashion magazines that oftentimes feature these celebrated idols. Of course, she’s never gotten a big head from working here. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. She’s had more than her fair share of rude encounters with pompous pop stars and arrogant actors - she recalls just last week an action star had her run out to buy him an iced coffee despite the fact that she needed to do his make-up for the shoot - and had even more instances where the stars had ignored her completely. These experiences haven’t made her bitter, but they have made her more or less indifferent to these many stars, and she doesn’t expect anything much from them anymore. If she’s learned anything from working with stars, it’s that they’re human just like anyone else. Except, perhaps, Marco Bodt.

Next Time
MaruMina. High School AU.

There are many things that are great about having a crush on the nicest boy in school: (1) He’s very nice. He’ll say good morning to her whenever she walks into class and often offers to catch her up on notes if he notices she missed a day at school. (2) He also happens to be very cute. He’s the type to flash a smile constantly – when he’s happy, when he’s cracking a joke, when he’s nervous, when he’s made a mistake – and that sprinkle of freckles across his nose make looking at his smiling face even more appealing. (3) He’s fun to be with. He always invites her along to nearby food places if they have a special item on their menu and even gets her a souvenir if his family went on vacation to a different country over the break.
But there are an equal number of things that aren’t so great about having a crush on the nicest boy in school: (1) He’s very nice. He also says good morning to everyone else, so Mina never knows if he’s being polite or actually likes her enough to wish her a good morning. (2) He also happens to be very cute. She’s not the only one who has noticed this. Other girls in her class – heck, in her entire year – have noticed it and it makes him rather popular. Mina wonders if he notices the crowd of girls that normally flock to his desk in the early mornings to ask him how he plans to spend his afternoon and if he could please tutor them sometime over the weekend because they’re having difficulty understanding Mr. Smith’s math homework. (3) He’s fun to be with. She can count on a gaggle of people to be with him whenever she hangs out with him because, well, everyone else wants to hang out with him too. It’s frustrating at times, especially when she just wants a moment along with him sometimes, but she can’t really blame them. But it’s all the more frustrating when Valentine’s Day rolls around. He’s always surrounded by his male friends, comparing the number of chocolates they’ve received from girls, or being bombarded with gifts from his various admirers. At first Mina hates it because she doesn’t understand why people wouldn’t leave him alone. If she can just get a moment alone with him, she could at least give him her chocolates, perhaps tack on a heartfelt speech about her appreciation for him (because she knows she’s not brave enough to give him a full-on confession). But he never has a moment alone – today but every other day as well – and she realizes she’s just using his many fans as an excuse to run away from what she really wants to do.
