Yes, you know you've been a bit cold and distant towards Tony recently but you have good reasons for that. It's because you're trying to get your mind clear and trying to figure out what you're going to do. And that's been going on for weeks now because finding out that you're pregnant is a big thing. You only wished that it was something you didn't have to find out by yourself.
You had your suspicions and because you and Tony never talked about this or about starting a family, you decided to buy a test and take it without saying anything to him. And when it came back positive, you had no idea how you were going to tell Tony because, for all you know, this could be something that he doesn't want. You think you just need to bring the topic up casually and see what he says so you can get an idea of how things will go down when you tell him.
You want to hang up on the video call before Tony answers even though you have to make sure with him that he has remembered the plans you two made a week ago. You want to hang up because the sick feeling in your stomach hasn't gone away since this morning and you don't know if you feel up to talk to Tony at the moment.
But before you can even move to tap the red button, Tony answers your call. And you want to hang up even more when you see that he's in a meeting with the team. "Oh. I'll call you later," you quickly say.
"No, I'm sure the team doesn't mind me taking this call," he says, stopping you when you move to hang up. Over his shoulder, you can see the team leaning back in their chairs as if they're getting comfortable because they can tell that this is going to take a while. "What can I do for you, sweetheart?"
You normally smile when he calls you that, but you don't now. It's something that Tony notices, making his smile slowly die as you drop your gaze to your hands. "Just wanted to make sure that we're still on for tonight," you state, but your voice lacks the excitement you used to speak with.
Tony sighs and shakes his head to himself. "If you stop the attitude then yeah, we're still on for tonight."
His words make you lift your head to look at the screen again and you can see the team shifting uncomfortably like they don't want to be there at the foresight of an argument breaking out between you two.
"What's that supposed to mean?" You didn't mean for those words to come out as harsh as they did, but you can't deny the anger starting to build inside you.
"Come on, (Y/n). You've been acting differently. You're cold and distant, and it's like you don't want to be around me anymore-"
"You don't think I have my reasons for that, Tony?"
"Other than you being a..." He trails off, stopping himself and looking to the side, his jaw clenching as he takes in a deep breath.
You lean forward, glaring at him through the screen. "Go on then. Don't let me stop you from saying what you want to say," you challenge even though you have an idea what he was going to say, making him look back at you with a furious glare. "Did you ever think to ask me why I'm acting like this without having an attitude yourself?"
"I thought you understood what you were getting into when we got together."
"You know what, I can't do this," you groan, wiping your hands over your face to hide the fact that tears are starting to form in your eyes. "I might have told you tonight but if you're so desperate to know why I'm acting like this then I'll tell you."
"Good. Tell me-"
"I'm pregnant."
Then, it's quiet. Tony stares at you with wide eyes, his mouth hanging open slightly, and not a word coming from him. This is exactly what you didn't want to happen. You didn't want to see the unsure look on his face and in his eyes about what he's going to do now. It kind of breaks your heart.
"Are you serious?" he asks, excitement sounding in his voice and making your heart skip a beat when you see his smile returning, this time much brighter. You slowly nod your head, a smile growing on your own face and it makes Tony all the more happy. "Oh, my God. We're gonna have to celebrate this. Tonight. Forget what we were going to do, I'm gonna come over there, and pick you up and we're gonna go somewhere special-"
Tony goes on, making you laugh and smile more than you have in weeks. You have to remind him that you can't drink the bottle of wine he's talking about bringing over as well. And when you remind him that the team is waiting for him, you end up watching him basically going to each member to tell them that he's going to be a father.
