i could've sworn i asked "top 5 fav villains" when i sent that other ask my bad!!!! i hope you feel better
uh, this is a tricky question. I’m not typically a big villain stan, but I’ll do my best to think of characters that are clearly bad, but also interesting/good at their role
Darth Maul from Star Wars: Cool design, best fight theme song, his death was a waste in the Phantom Menace which is why later writers were like “and he comes back! 😁”
Loki from Marvel’s Thor series: I love him in all his various appearances. I love him in the MCU. I love him in the comic books when he was like “I traveled back in time to kill Odin’s father and set off the chain of events that led to my adoption by Odin, because I’m playing evil non-linear chess”. I love him in his teen form where he’s genderfluid and just a shady younger brother rather than really evil.
Team Rocket and Team Skull from Pokemon: One group is objectively bad but I always loved Jessie and James from the anime for breaking gender roles and trying their best. The other group is more of a slight nuisance than really evil, and I love their aesthetic and Guzma’s raps.
The leader of Mint Eye from Mystic Messenger: Honestly such an excellent portrayal of manipulation and emotional abuse that this character makes me sick to my stomach when I play, and gives me a lot of PTSD flashbacks.
Sidestep from Fallen Hero: A customizable MC made up entirely of the player’s own projection of traumas and need for love, Sidestep is either an incredible villain or just wildly sad.
And that’s all I could think of. There’s plenty of antagonists who do a good job at making me hate them or creating obstacles for the protagonists from a narrative design, but not a lot that I would say are my faves.
