NYC Protestors: learnings from tonight’s stand off on the Manhattan bridge. 1. Keep your hands above you head as you walk by the cops or they escort the crowd in a direction. Make sure your hands are visible to them at all times. 2. They trapped us on the bridge for a couple of hours. I say this not to scare you but to caution you be prepared to get arrested because it may come to that so write your emergency contact number on your person to call them later. 3. They will 100% try to kettle the crowd and intimidate you into violence or aggressive behavior do not allow them to coax you. Thats the narrative they want. Stay calm. 4. Bring a phone charger because that way you can call community organizers, your local representative, tweet reporters and news outlets that want on the ground coverage. Everyone got their phones out and started a virtual protest on twitter about the NYPD refusing to let us off and the retweets spread quickly and the news helicopters appeared within minutes to document what was happening.
**Eventually the cops and the crowd walked together to the BK side. The protest was peaceful. No one looted at least not in my protest. No one threw anything at the cops and they didn’t throw anything at us. However we did have to call reporters and news outlets to assist in mitigating a conversation to negotiate letting us off the bridge.Lastly bring a ton of water you won’t know when you’ll be able to get some more.**
