Mask City Final Presentation

For my final presentation I wanted to have two images bigger in the centre and the two b&w images at the side smaller. Extremely happy with the final result

Mask City

For this brief I wanted to focus on capturing people wearing masks on public transport. The images I captured I shot on Scotrail trains and the Glasgow Subway.

I found it most difficult shooting in the Subway as it is much darker than on the train. With post production I brightened up my images by turning the exposure and highlights up. I also sharpened the images and reduced noise. I wanted to have 2 colour and 2 black and white images.

Mask City.

Another Fan Ho inspired shot. This was a proper snapshot taken from the car while waiting at traffic lights. Glad I kept the camera handy and ready to rock. I love the light in this one and the chin mask fits with a few others. No criticism of the wearer of course. He’s on a break and outside. I’m sure he’s earned it.

I could not resist asking these fine people to pose for a completely different take on the mask city project. They were headed for a works party with a day of the Dead theme. The face painter had been but they were not yet in party outfits.

Hannah does not believe that she is photogenic but I disagree. As the wind caught her hair and she swept it off her face I caught a shot between shots that is actually one of my favourites.

This shot came from just being open to opportunity. Shortly after arriving in this location these characters presented themselves, thoughtfully having dressed, and arranged themselves to tie in with their environment. I just caught the critical moment in terms of the guy in the red jacket framing himself against that dark pillar.

The scene is actually the polar opposite of what I had intended for this location. I expected to catch some glamorous "ladies who lunch". Instead this litter strewn ultra casual aesthetic could be a very different town altogether.

Two covert shots in the same lovely pub in Glasgow's West end. Petit Couchon if you are interested. I really liked the tones of the interior which was actually quite dim. Lovely lunch and lovely staff who still have no idea that they have been captured.The first image is more successful in terms of lighting but the waitress changed direction very quickly spoiling my composition. The light outside changed subtly but significantly blowing the highlights in the second.

masks remain an essential part of the uniform, even in casual settings. the trend is towards disposable rather than branded.
