Dwight had been about to break into a run, but the Killer's surprising lack of aggression was enough to make him hesitate. Maybe it was a stupid wish, something naive and idealistic that should have been stamped out of him a long time ago, but he wanted to be friends with the Killers. Part of him felt like, if everyone just stopped and talked to each other, they could all work together to make this place better. This could be a first step towards Dwight's noble goal.
But, then again, she could just be fucking with him.
If she was, then she had already succeeded when Dwight chose not to run. Anything else Dwight did wouldn't sway her, but he offered a tentative smile all the same.
"You're one of the Legion, right?" he said. "I'm Dwight. I know it's not what we're supposed to do, but we could just... Talk."
If the entreaty sounded a bit pained, it was because Dwight knew the outcome was unlikely. He was still willing to risk being stabbed for the possibility, though.
