There are greenscreen masks videos that some kind hearted editor have shared but I don't know how to actually get them from the YT video. Any suggestion?

I personally use OnlineVideoConverter and have done so for years without any problems. All you need to do is to copy the Youtube video link, add it to the search-bar and download it. But sites like this can have viruses so use on your own risk. And if you are ever asked to download a software in order for it to work then do not trust it!

Hi dearie! Saw a lot of questions about editi g lately and they have been so helpful even for myself! About the masking giveaways, how can I remove the greenscreen? I tried using chroma key and it's so bad! Are there any HD RGB+alpha (with no back greenscreen) masks around?

Hi! :D You remove greenscreens with effects such as one you described. However, it’s all about adjusting the settings for the effect to get the best results. I personally prefer Keylight in After Effects and then fine-tune the settings till my fingers bleed. Color Key also works, but you might need more than just one. But sometimes you might get that dreaded opacity on your mask, right? Then you could try duplicating the shot and putting it on top of the other one. And let’s say that a character has green eyes and they disappear when the Chroma effect is added, then you must mask just the eyes on a separate layer. 

It’s hard to give away Alpha maskings since it always requires more than just a video on Youtube (downloadable clips on a separate site like DropBox), and right now I do not know of any editors who share these kinds of rendered maskings with the public.

I might seem a bit snappy in my replies to this person, but that’s because they have annoyed me before so I’m growing more and more impatient with them. Just wanted to point that out.

The ironic thing is that I kinda sorta had been considering doing a Hollina masks giveaway, as a way to encourage people to work with Hollina. But whatever slight chance there was of me doing that was killed by this comment because now whenever I think of sharing Hollina masks, this conversation will pop into my head -.-

This is one of the few things I have a very strong opinion on when it comes to editing. Yes, I think it’s cheating to use other people’s masks. And I know that offends and upsets some people. I don’t mean any ill intend by this opinion, it’s not an opinion i’m choosing to have, but that is honestly how I feel.

Masking is unarguably the most tedious, kinda boring and difficult part of crossover editing, but it’s also the most important part. It’s through masks that we can put one character into a new environment, give them new clothes, making them have interactions with other characters, etc. So when people want to “skip that” because it’s too difficult and people think it’s too hard, it doesn’t honestly bug me a bit.

I’ve always been of the opinion that a hobby should most of all be fun and something you do because you love it, and that is still my opinion, but I’m also of the opinion that if you want to do something, you can’t just skip the process of learning how to do it.

You don’t learn ballet by NOT learning discipline. You don’t learn to ride a horse without falling off it. You don’t learn to draw or write without staring at a blank canvas until your eyes feel like they’ll pop out because you have zero ideas. You don’t learn psychology without learning a bunch of hard to remember terms. And you don’t learn how to make crossover videos without learning how to do masks.

Besides, if you use other people’s masks, how much of the video you’re making was actually MADE by you? You didn’t do the hard work of making those masks, so what work did you actually do? Not a lot. No matter how much you play with colorings and settings and make up a great story, the tedious and difficult part of crossover editing is still something you skipped.

And yes, I think that’s cheating. Sorry if that upsets or offend you. But I am less likely to watch videos of someone whose masks are mostly made by other people.
