Did you spend the weekend drinking too much beer, eating many and varied pizza-like foods, and perhaps sleeping in your makeup? No? Oh! Haha, well, definitely me neither! We are all responsible adults who would never! However, in the event that we HAD thrown caution to the wind and treated our faces like garb for two straight days, there is hope yet: the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay mask.
If you’ve previously dipped your toe into the online skincare scene, you’ve probably heard of this magical mask, which is made of 100% bentonite clay and sold for a mere $8 on Amazon. I purchased the 1lb tub of mask probably 2 years ago and it’s only half empty-- masking on a budget! While many products advertise “pore cleansing”, this one REALLY hits the mark. I always use it after a long weekend, especially if tequila told me to sleep in my makeup or I was otherwise irresponsible with my face.
Per many other reviews of this cult classic, I mix about a teaspoon of the clay powder with equal parts apple cider vinegar and water. You can use just plain water if you don’t have ACV on hand, but the ACV really helps the mask mix nicely instead of clumping. I also squeeze a small blob of raw honey, because I saw it somewhere and liked the idea-- also, because any clay mask can be a bit drying, and the humectant properties of honey help to mitigate that.
The first few times you make this concoction will likely be a bit trial and error-- sometimes you’ll use too much clay, so it’s too thick, so you add more liquid, and then it’s too runny, and by the time you have the right consistency, you’ve made enough clay mask to coat your entire body. At least it’s only $8/lb!
In the end, I somehow end up with just the right amount and consistency of mask #blessed. Check this beautiful, appetizing color!
This lovely khaki mixture goes all over my face, where it will stay for 15-20 minutes until it dries and starts to get a bit itchy.
Since I need to shower anyway, I just rinse it off in there, although obviously you can just do a sink wash if it’s not Shower Time. As I mentioned above, this mask (really any clay mask) can dry your skin out, so I skip any other acne treatments when I use it and slather on a nice thick moisturizer before bed. In the morning, my face truly feels gunk-free and reset from all the trials and tribulations of the weekend. I can’t recommend anything more highly after a weekend of sleeping in your mascara.

I realized when I posted the @tonymoly.us_official Brightening Cherry Blossom sheetmask, that I COMPLETELY forgot that I hadn’t posted the review for the Hydrating Lavender sheetmask from the same floral collection. Whoops! Looks like you guys get triple-mask reviews this week then. I have to admit, I was hesitant to even try this mask. The only other hydrating sheetmask I’ve tried from TonyMoly is their aloe mask, which, while hydrating, is a dripping, slip-n-slide mess that makes it completely useless to me. How well can the product do it’s job when it can’t even stay on my face? But the pretty idea of lavender, and my general love for this classic flower, drew me in. And I was pleasantly surprised! The lavender mask had plenty of serum, but didn’t drip as badly as the aloe. In fact, the sheet seemed to have almost absorbed most of the watery excess for easier transfer to the skin, and even with this, it stayed glued to my face the entire time. No fuss, no slip, it just stayed put! The mask didn’t disappoint with a nice lavender scent either, but wasn’t overwhelming like the cherry blossom mask. It was just a very light smell that helped brighten up the experience when you first put on the mask, and then faded away a few minutes in. The cons for this mask may surprise you though. While the mask was good overall, it didn’t wow me, and I wanted to be wowed. I use sheetmasks to add that extra boost to my skincare routine, and the lavender, while definitely moisturizing, didn’t seem to add much of anything besides an extra layer of moisture. I woke up the next morning with my skin feeling exactly as it had before I had used the mask, which while not bad, does make you wonder what the point of tossing in that extra step of serum was for. I could have just slathered on another drop of my all-in-one honey ampoule, and it would have been exactly the same. Oh well! They can’t all be total winners, right? At least I found a better hydrating mask than the serum-shower that is the aloe one. #tonymoly #koreanskincare #skincare #sheetmask #mask #maskreview
At this rate, I might as well just only review @tonymoly.us_official sheet masks. I've got two others waiting to be tried, and another 2-3 on the way! At least I'm narrowing down what I like... So! Another one from the floral spring collection, and it's the Cherry Blossom Brightening sheet mask! I wasn't very surprised by this combo since TonyMoly has/had a Hiyan Cherry Blossom collection (I can't find it anymore though, and it may have been replaced by the White Tea collection??) that focused on brightening/whitening. What IS brightening, you may ask! Originally marketed as whitening, and then changed for Western markets, Korean products that focus on brightening don't actually lighten your complexion or skin color like it may lead you to assume. Instead, it focuses on evening out skintone, diminishing dark spots and unwanted freckles, and fading acne scars. It does NOT bleach your skin, thank goodness!! The brightening effect is to help your skin glow with health! My poor face has a lot going on and so I've gravitated towards brightening products a lot to help with all the scars on my face. They're not miracles in a bottle, but it sure has been helping with my face's overall texture. ANYWAY!! The mask! Because brightening is a long-term affect, I can't really atest to the mask's ability to brighten up my skin, but the overall function was great! The mask practically adhered to my face the second I put it on; no drips, no fuss, it was great! My only complaint is the scent. This mask is definitely scented, which surprised me since the Lavender mask didn't have much of a scent to it. The cherry blossom scent was pleasant, but it did start to sting my eyes after a while. Overall, if this mask was put in front of me again, and it was the only brightening mask there, I'd probably pick it up again. If there were other choices though? Probably not thanks to the scent. #tonymoly #tonymolysheetmask #koreanskincare #skincare #sheetmask #review #maskreview
Happy Wednesday!! Time to talk about a mask! I was going to talk about another sheet mask, but decided to go for a regular mask instead. This is @skinfood_us Black Sugar Mask, and holy moly, is it AWESOME!! I actually avoided it for a while because I was afraid it would be too harsh for my skin, but boy was I wrong! Turns out Black Sugar is much more gentle then I thought, and while it is grainy and feels like it should be scrubbing off half your face... When the mask is washed off, your skin feels soft, smooth, and happily moisturized! This mask exfoliates with black sugar, scrubbing off all the yuck on your face, while also providing it with plenty of good stuff thanks to its shea butter base. It has a scent to it as well, so be prepared to smell like a delicious brown sugar cookie topped with caramelized fruit while wearing this! I just can't get over how great my skin looks after I use this. It practically glows, shrinks down my pores to almost nothing, and looks even better after I apply my toner. My skin absolutely loves this stuff. I am completely sold on this mask!! The only con is that because it's made with sugar, the mask does melt a little bit on your face. Be careful not to slather on too much, or you might accidentally drip sugar syrup everywhere! I highly recommend this mask if you're looking for something that exfoliates and moistures at the same time, especially if you have dry or combination skin. Just remember to do a patch test to make sure your skin reacts to it well before putting it all over your face! #skincare #mask #koreanskincare #skinfood #review #maskreview #koreanbeauty #skinfoodblacksugarmask
Today’s review is about a beauty that I bought some time earlier this month. The Body Shop launched their new masks’ line some months before and I have been eyeing them since. Everyone was raving about them especially Amina Kin, my favorite you tuber. I could not resist myself but to buy them.
Firstly, I planned to buy all of them but when I checked their prices in…
