The whole mask thing is about “RISK REDUCTION”… not 100% Guaranteed Prevention. Do you stop using condoms because they don’t work 100% of the time? 🤔 The CDC and the WHO now, finally, strongly recommend masks in public settings. YES, earlier in this pandemic mess, both organizations recommended just the opposite. Sadly, the flip flopping guidelines have caused confusion and political divide among the public about the importance of masks.😷 But the scientific evidence is clear that masks can help prevent the spread of COVID-19. And the more people who do wear masks, the better. SO JUST HOW MANY PEOPLE NEED TO WEAR MASKS? Keep in mind that COVID-19 infected people who are asymptomatic/ pre-symptomatic have an incubation period ranging from 2 to 15 days (averaging around 5 days). Sadly, these people are MOST infectious during this period. And we can’t spot them in a crowd! But if they (and it could be you) were wearing a mask… we would all be SO MUCH SAFER as they would keep their pathogens to themselves. A University of California epidemiologist George Rutherford, MD, says “We want 100 percent of people to wear masks, but we will settle for 80 percent.” That seems to be the sweet spot. Studies in real world scenarios of countries who culturally embrace masks as a gesture of politeness and showing they care about the greater good during a pandemic have leas researchers to predict that if at least 80 percent of the population were to wear masks we would do more to reduce COVID-19 spread than a strict lockdown. Yes, you read that correctly! Even when lifting lockdown, if we practice social distancing, hyper-vigilante hand washing AND wear a mask we would be able to short circuit the this wave and the second wave in its tracks. WE HAVE THE TOOLS ... and they should be on our faces!. . #justwearthemask #iprotectyouyouprotectme #envymask #masksforall #masksforward (at Canada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCkMB0MjnZX/?igshid=mdxrmqyxij53
