is there a backstory behind Mason Zapiarty?
Mason is the younger brother of my main Pokemon Trainer OC Jay Zapiarty. (Not to be confused with Jay Zappy, the Demon hunting Angel, or Jae Zellerbache the Silvestrian starship captain...)
They have a ten year age difference, and Mason didn’t meet Jay face to face until he was 13, though he did get postcards and video calls through the years. He lives with their parents in the Unova region, known for their blending of tradition and high tech. He grew up with two neighbors, his childhood best friends, Cheren Nakamura and Bianca Delacourte. The three of them were inseparable, and even started their journey together. During his trek through the region, Team Plasma started their attempt to take back control of the region from the council of the Elite Four & Gym Leaders, to the Royal Family of Harmonia.
In the year that follows, Mason and Cheren get closer emotionally (although don’t admit as much until their late teens, when the two of them also figure that they’re on the ace-spectrum), meet N- the Crown Prince and Rightful Ruler of Unova, and Mason becomes the Chosen Hero of the Dragon of Ideals. The trials they face trying to stop Plasma from destroying Unova and stealing Pokemon (possibly even starting a war) deeply effect the trio. Mason gets inspired to learn as much about the history as possible, for those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it. He winds up becoming apprentence to Hawes, the Museum Curator of Nacrene City. Cheren becomes a teacher and an aspiring Gym Leader. Bianca gets inspired in the care and study of Pokemon and interns with Professor Juniper.
The Zapiarty family themselves have long since had a bond with dragon Pokemon, having come from a Dragon Village; Blackthorn City in Johto. Jay is a Dragonologist, and Mason’s bloodline is what drew Zekrom (nicknamed Raiu) to choose him.
