headcanon: in m.e.: evolution, lieutenant abrudas was well above the typical age and experience range of a turian lieutenant, thus why she was assigned to be second-in-command under a general. desolas vastly outranked her, but she “should” have been a higher rank, so she was assigned to his command anyway.

the reason she was not higher-ranking was because, quite simply, she was another kind of “bad turian.” while she could take orders and hold her own in combat situations like a champ, she wasn’t intimidated by higher ranks, and had no qualms about arguing with superior officers when she felt they were handling a situation incorrectly. this frustrated the hierarchy, as while she certainly showed aptitude for leadership in the military, her tendencies towards belligerence and insubordination were felt to be unbecoming of an officer, so it was decided she would be given assignments befitting her experience, but kept at a lower rank in an attempt at an incentive to rein herself in.

there’s a panel in evolution where one of timmy’s friends tells abrudas, to her face, that she’s so ugly she should kill herself, and we’re expected to believe none of the turians react in the slightest..... meanwhile every panel she’s in abrudas is shown as burly and buff so let’s be real here the moment the camera swapped to something else abrudas punted the little fuckhead into orbit and the entire squad cheered. also the lady human eva who was with them also cheered, because even though they’re working together my god that was a disgusting thing to say. welcome to the GUN SHOW puny asshole human

i imagine turians like to leave holes in their fashion so their hip spurs can stick out, both for comfort and for showing off ;)
