Mass Gothic’s Dark Window is still on our list of singles we’re endlessly obsessed with this year, especially since it exudes shades of Arcade Fire’s verdant lushness alongside its bewitching Beach House like noire-atmospherics. The husband-wife duo from NY has now followed up that immense tune with yet another top notch song named J.Z.O.K., a strange yet hypnotic work of sonic wonder. It’s a dark buzzing, cacophonous jangling song that pairs melodic vocals with artsy rock. To be honest, it’s not an easy song to describe, you just have to dive in and listen, let it take you to an outlandish yet faintly familiar world with its crunchy whirring guitars and melodic heaving noise rock. Its accompanying video is appropriately heady and opaque, like a fevered dream, or a spectral revelry through shadowy streets.
