         brows are drawn together as lily STARES at james-- a perplexed look that isn’t too uncommon on her face when she looks at him, but one tinged with surprise no less. there is shock in the way mouth lifts-- in the breathy jolt of laughter she released before shaking her head.  

  “alright hang on a minute. so-- you... you’re telling me you all became animagi for him?” the notion didn’t surprise her in the slightest. anyone with eyes could see how much the four of them meant to one another-- it just caught her a little off guard to discover the specifics. “where did this idea even come from? and how-- how on earth did you get this one passed any of the professors?”

       there is no fear running through your veins as you hold him close-- as you soothe hand through hair and murmur comforting words. you do not FEAR the brilliant and devastating magic that resides within him.   you KNOW of the harm it can do, the destruction it can cause-- have heard it from his very own lips, and now seen it with your own eyes.   but still, there is no fear. none at all for yourself. 

  because you KNOW he is not the monster they see. he is not out of control, is not a time bomb. you see the methods, the calculation-- how emotions can overpower him, but how the subsequent explosion is ALWAYS placed correctly, always perfectly aimed. 

( loathe even the idea that someone would want to destroy that. )

       HOPE is not something that dares burn too brightly inside of you– not for many years now. you have long since come to terms with the fact that for you, it is a pointless dream. there is only REALISM, a focus on that which is tangible. 

( so long ago you stopped being girl full of dreams, one who would look to wide open skies full of stars with a sparkle to her eyes. you left dreams to the dead of night such a long time ago now. ) 

  but there is no bitterness in the self admission. you have no NEED for something as childish as hope. not when instead, you find strength in action– in making things happen, rather than thinking about them. 

 which is why his words do not cause pain nor melancholy. instead, you lift head and look at him with an honest, small smile– one you let so few see. reach out hands to cup his cheek and have him meet your gaze, eyes you hope speak of SOFTNESS and protection where he has been so starved of it.
