HE’S NEVER FELT SO PROUD OF HIMSELF. To be promoted is one thing, but to also get a PAY INCREASE was a miracle. Arthur’s finally being recognised as a good wizard, and with the impending war coming closer, he feels like it’s a bit of good news that will help Molly and distract her from the DOOM.
Arthur can hardly CONTAIN HIS EXCITEMENT and he stops on his way home to pick a small bunch of flowers from the garden. He didn’t get that much of a rise.
Pushing the door to the Burrow open, ARTHUR GRINS WHEN HE SEES HIS WIFE. ‘ Good evening, dear! ’ Arthur hands Molly the flowers. ‘ I’ve got some good news – I’ve been promoted! ’
days seem to grow darker for molly weasley. the hope is slowly being snuffed out by the impending doom they’re all facing with the upcoming war. rarely does she set foot outside alone, nor does she allow her children to go past the field and past the protection spell placed upon the burrow without herself or arthur by their side. even though her twins are adults she still prefers one of the real adults to go with them. anything to ensure their safety.
relief floods when she hears arthur’s voice. her clock is no longer reliable so she has no knowledge of where her family is when not in the burrow. turning around she’s greeted with flowers, and brows raise in surprise. from her own garden but the thought is what counts. and then his news comes and she’s even more surprised.
❛ oh arthur dear how wonderful ! ❜ she feels immense pride at his statement. she always knew arthur deserved more than get got at the ministry. and a promotion meant more money which the weasley’s desperately needed. ❛ well deserved, i always hoped they’d see what i do in you. ❜

what are you supposed to say ? it seems like the grief they all share will never disappear. things are different and the laughter has seemingly died from all of their eyes. vivid flashes happen throughout the day of her sons lifeless body being carried into the great hall. she can still feel her heart stop and the tears well, can feel her stomach churning uncomfortably as if she might throw up. nightmares of him being killed before her eyes and being unable to save him. because isn’t that what a mother was meant to do ? protect her young and make sure no harm comes to them ? and she hadn’t been able to do that. she failed her boy and there was no taking it back.
a shaking breath passes her lips, and she offers a tight lipped smile to the remaining twin. but it fades so quickly for she has no reason to smile. ❛ i know my boy, i know. i half expect him to round the corner and pull some ridiculous prank on me... ❜

HIS EYES MAY JUST BETRAY HIM. as they tend to do in regards to her , and so he busies himself with his pocket watch , attempting to read off the time in the light of his candle. “ oh , sorry to worry you , darling , i - well , i couldn’t sleep. ” this part is true. “ thought i’d tinker ‘round a bit. ” this is also true , but when he holds up his pocket watch for her to see with his most innocent grin , all he can think about is the bike out back in the shed and how much more work he can do on it.
he shakes the thought away as quickly as it comes , tucking away the watch and reaching for her hand. he knows the worry has only grown worse in the past few months , mounting with each passing day and arrival of a paper. many days , he wishes he could be more present. other days , he fears he’s far too present in the spaces he once felt so comfortable in. but none of that is neither here nor there , not when she needs him.
“ come now , it’s very late. or very early , and we’ve an early morning , don’t we ? ”
when you’re together as long as them you pick up a thing or two about your partner, and that includes when there is more than just tinkering with a watch on their minds. his quick dismissal of anything out of the ordinary strikes her as odd and she’s not having it. their relationship is built on honesty and love, and if they start hiding the truth behind their worries things could spiral out of control.
❛ there is more on your mind dear, i can see it. we’re not heading up until you tell me what’s wrong. ❜ and just like that she falls into routine, slipping past him and towards the stove where she fills the kettle. a calming tea before bed never hurt anyone, and it would hopefully ease whatever may be bothering her husband.
