Summary:
Kylo Ren was supposed to go to Jakku to find information on Luke's whereabouts, but the Force-sensitive girl in the slaver's auction was too interesting to leave behind. Rey has only ever known the life of a slave on Jakku, bought and sold from master to master, but the mysterious and terrifying creature who now owns her is like no master she's ever had before.
Chapter 87: Food Insecurity (excerpt below)
Kylo woke with a start, his heart jolting at the thought that somehow Girl was in danger and he needed to rescue her from herself again. But once he sat up and blinked at his brightening room, he calmed, realizing it was his alarm that had woken him, and he reached to shut it off.
It was much earlier than usual, as was typical on mission days, and he was sure Girl would figure out what was happening when the kitchen droid came and she saw the time. Kylo knew he would have to prepare for her to have some sort of small meltdown about him leaving again.
He sighed with a scowl. She cried too much.
As if you didn’t cry every time they left you behind on Chandrila like a discarded–
Shut up.

Chapter 85: Secrets, and Trust (excerpt below)
Once the drugs had run their course, the female medic from earlier took out the port in Rey’s hand and gave her a bowl of nutrimeal to eat. By the time she was finished eating and feeling stable enough to get dressed, another two hours had gone by. She knew she’d only have maybe an hour or so in the Yard if she went there right now, which wasn’t much time to get anything substantial done, but she still dutifully called Lord Ren and asked if she could go.
“After thinking on it, I would rather spend the time today building your walls back up,” he told her. “Come back to the rooms. Tomorrow you can go to the Yard.”
“Yessir,” Rey replied. She was disappointed and nervous about not getting any droids done today on top of none yesterday, but she was also looking forward to working on her mind with her master again. It was embarrassing to be a mental nuisance to him the way she had been lately, with her thoughts and emotions projected so loudly.
“You don’t have your datapad, do you?” he asked, although it sounded more like a thought spoken to himself. “Can you make it back on your own?”
Rey blinked at the question, then hurried to say, “Oh, um, yessir, I’m pretty sure I know the way.” Her voice became small. “You won’t need to send anyone.” Anyone being Lord Tomaxx.
Lord Ren was quiet for a moment.

Chapter 91: Speaking of Ghosts (excerpt below)
Cseenan Ren prowled down the corridor, scales still feeling too tight around his body, claws itching to sink into flesh and blood, but at least he didn’t tear the pet’s throat out like he wanted, and at least the loud runner-thoughts had stopped.
He even preened secretly to himself, proud of his strength and resistance. Maybe Blue and Master would stop treating him like a pup to be babysat now, since he proved he could be alone with the little glow worm and keep his teeth to his self.
Saying out loud that he was no brother-killer like that fucking ssksh Visser helped set it in stone in his mind, even though the runner-thoughts still whispered. He would just bash his head until they went silent then, if they would not stop.
Besides, the girl on Phu hadn’t been so tasty—too little meat or fat. Master’s slave was even less than that, so a part of Cseenan’s head thought it would be best to wait until she was plumped up more before trying to eat her again.
If the runner-thoughts stopped by then, then that was that. No eating her even if she’s more tasty. But if they don’t stop….
Well, she would be fine with a metal arm. Maybe a leg too. Legs had lots of meat and fat.

Kylo woke at his alarm, and after turning it off with a groan he lay still and stared at the ceiling. There was much to do today, and so his mind immediately started buzzing as it worked to compartmentalize everything: There was more research to do and missions to plan, he would need to find time to train, and he would need to meet with Hux and Phasma to update them on what he and the Knights were doing. As much as he hated the general, if he and the Knights found the Resistance base while out doing groundwork he would need the First Order to be informed so they could be ready to strike with full force.
Breathing in deeply and letting out a long sigh, Kylo decided to schedule that meeting before training. No doubt Hux would get his blood boiling and he would need the release.
With that thought, Kylo got up with a huff and headed to the ‘fresher to shower. (Continue on AO3)

Chapter 88: A Calculated Effort (excerpt below)
As soon as they got back to the shuttle, Kylo checked the console right away, giving a quiet sigh of relief on seeing the transfer was complete. Now they could go back to the Finalizer to decrypt it and have the computers analyze the contents for anything useful.
After a quick refuel, they received the all-clear for departure and lifted off, rain just beginning to pelt the hull as they ascended into the atmosphere. Once they entered orbit and jumped to hyperspace, they each cleaned up in the ‘fresher and changed back into their usual gear.
Cseenan went to the bunk room to sleep off his very full stomachs, leaving Kylo and Tomaxx sitting in the cockpit, silently busying themselves with their datapads. Kylo found himself lost in thought soon enough, remembering the fearful look on Petr’s face and wondering whether he should have investigated the boy further. If Petr had remembered them it could make their return trips to Phu more risky. Why hadn’t Kylo just gotten rid of the boy when he had the chance?
“I thought about what we spoke of earlier, Master,” Tomaxx suddenly said, eyes still on his datapad as Kylo’s attention snapped to him. “And I have determined that it might be more beneficial if I am present when you talk to Girl.”
He looked up, meeting Kylo’s probing gaze.
“How so?” the latter asked.

Rey walked quickly to the Yard, eager to start on her work and distract herself from her thoughts. She didn’t want to think about last night, or how she was going to have to speak with Lord Tomaxx—actually speak, no getting out of it this time—about her behavior.
Now that she knew he was a Chiss, she was embarrassed about how she’d been acting around him. No wonder he had been so strict with her, both in the Situation room and while Lord Ren was away seeing his master; he was used to slaves who were educated and formally trained.
The only training she’d ever gotten was at the end of a whip, but she still blamed herself for how ignorant she was. She should have tried harder to learn how to be more proper.
And besides the embarrassment of being such a terrible slave, Rey was still battling confusion and despair about why she’d deserved his cruelty, although she desperately did not want to be overwhelmed with emotion today.
