Focus areas of Interest
My main focus for now regarding my masters project is branding. Ever since a was a first year student creating simple forms using a grid system always fascinated me.
For me, it is really important to be able to communicate using simple forms that behind it have a bigger meaning. My strongest goal is to think more creatively by using simple forms to explain something dipper.
I believe that simplicity is the key to any visual symbol and can be applied to almost any area of design. My inspiration about this, comes mainly from the brand identities of the Olympic games. The design team in charge, can spend years evolving a project in order to express each country's cultural identity or a meaning behind each concept.
In my opinion, a strong identity comes by taking advantage of the cultural history that each country has to offer. Usually something like that is used for the Olympic games thus forming a strong visual identity that is able to communicate with the visitors.
Proofing a physicist's Master's Progress Report and found the line "Python has a decent enough selection of modules designed for parallel processing." All I could focus on was "decent enough" and my It's-One-AM-And-I've-Been-Up-Since-Six brain chose the response of: "Decent enough? Are they tolerable you suppose but not handsome enough to tempt you? Are you in no mood to give consequence to modules that have been slighted by other programmers? You truly are the Mr Darcy of the Python world you know." THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T ASK ME TO HELP YOU AT ONE IN THE MORNING!
DERP.
Ah, my dearest writer's block decided to bless me with its presence tonight.
Process of writer's block:
1. Type, type, type and realize nothing is good.
2. Start deleting and end up with a blank page.
3. Stare at the blank page.
4. Scribble some ideas on a notepad.
5. Execute the poorly-structured ideas from notepad onto Word.
6. Nope.
7. Come to Tumblr to try to get that writing flow back —doesn't work.
8. Ask myself why I bought coffee if I can't even think properly.
9. Listen to Sam Smith.
10. Go back to notepad and repeat #4.
Academic-Minded Queer Tumblr!
Hello! My name is Sierra and I am currently working on my MA project, a 26 page research endeavor (ha, it sounds fancier now) that I want to write, focusing on the invisibility of "liminal" MOGAI/ queer folks** in Gay and Lesbian YA (trans, bi, intersex). If you would like to help me out, please keep reading!
BGSD Tuesday
Yesterday I got my daughter enrolled for high school (ugh, I'm old) and did the paperwork the government makes you do at least twice a year because Republicans hate helping people (SNAP recertification time). Today I got my son registered in a fraction of the time. Next year we're going all of us together on the second day.
This morning I've put in all the relevant school dates into Google calendar, for myself and the kids. We all start school on the 18th.
Today, and for the rest of this week and next week, I am focusing on my master's project (the Art of Cyberwar wiki). I'm doing most of the writing in Word, because then I know how much I have and it's so much easier to edit. It is, right now, about 40 pages long. Many of the chapters have nearly nothing in them, and I'm just not going to be happy unless I can get the thing to 60 pages at least, probably closer to 70. I also have a 20 page analytical paper that goes with it.
I feel like I haven't gotten nearly enough work done on this over the summer, and now I'm going to kick ass and take no names because I don't have time for you. A lot of other things happened and they are important, too, but I seriously must knuckle down.
Oh, and I have a job interview tomorrow morning for a dispatcher position for the city. I'm actually pretty jazzed about that, it's good pay doing something that matters in the world, and I can go part-time until after I graduate. It's also public sector, so I can use it towards the federal loan forgiveness program. Because my student loans would make Tony Stark gasp in horror.
