Everyone totally needs to read those two. I agree. See, totally forgot all the Vertigo ones. This is why I shouldn't write rec lists at night when I'm tired LOL.

the problem is 1) i have a LOT of books, like a lot of them 2) a fair few of them I know for sure are out of print 3) some of them I wouldn't necessarily recommend or would only recommend with caveats attached (a lot of the Llewellyn books are like that) 4) some of them are still in the To Read pile so I can't offer an opinion on them

so i would have to sit down and really go through them thoroughly to make a list like that and i just dont have the time or the energy for it. i have so many complicated feelings about certain books in my library and that's why i don't do rec lists

so you've got the standard nonsense found your typical trashy Neo-Wicca 101 book (using "Wicca" and "witchcraft" interchangeably, dubious theology, a heap of cultural appropriation, an overabundance of shit authors/books in the biblography), combined with an extra heap of nonsense from the queer perspective

there's questionable language and ideas about trans ppl--"transgendered" is used a lot, and i remember him lumping drag queens and trans women together as "our diva sisters" that have ~goddess energy~ or some similarly transmisogynist fuckshit. and despite some weird talk about "androgyny", he repeats the same heteronormative and binarist ideas found in Wicca without challenging them at all ("we all have god and goddess energy!" and half assed talk about Jungian animas and animuses doesn't cut it), bisexuality is alternately being conflated with gender in that bizarre pre-Kinsey scientific kinda way and then otherwise totally ignored except for a tiny handful of token mentions inside the acronym. Apollo is inexplicably left off a list of "queer positive deities".

etc, etc, etc. i could really go on

there *are* bits that are of use, but you've got to dig through a lot of bs to get there. tbh my problem with Chris Penczak is that the technical/praxis-oriented stuff in his books tends to be solid (which is why I have a few of his other books), but the ideas presented in terms of philosophy and the spiritual underpinnings are regurgitated trash of the sort that drove me away from Wicca in the first place.

I understand Bashir gets better but he's been pretty annoying so far (like if you want to talk about unwelcome advances the way he's been hanging off Dax is super irritating to me in a way that Quark somehow isn't)

Nog and Rom haven't had time to improve much

as for Kai Winn, come on, I love a good villain and Louise Fletcher does serene conviction like no one else -- like, she fucking nails that awful simpering "I'll pray for you" thing that religious fanatics do when what they really mean is "I will destroy you," and as much as she desires temporal power she's also completely sincere in her belief that she's on the side of right and all ends are justifiable, which is pretty much my favorite kind of villain -- and she's just getting started

The Wyatt thing. Like he was the magical Messiah. Also, if he went evil, evil reigned, which is what happened with Chris’s timeline. I swear the writers for the later seasons wanted to take away the matrilineal power, and thats how you get a Wyatt
