Identity
KaiMas/Kaito x Master (male OC)
Warnings: UHH Kaito is kind of creepy and yandere-ish but really he doesn't do anything. Implied stalking too I guess but really he's just kind of odd in this one LMAO
Author's note: Not gonna lie every pony this bad boy here most likely super sucks. I didn't have a plan for this, I just threw shit at the wall to see what sticks. I had too much freedom (which I didn't know was possible) and didn't quite know what to do. I ended up cutting off a few scenes in the ending which made it abrupt but meh. Also most of this was written when I was half asleep so there's that too LMAO

In the beginning, there is nothing except darkness and data being swayed back and forth as he stays put, waiting for it to find its way to him. Eventually, he gathers enough of it together to understand what he is.
He is KAITO, a Voice Synth and digital companion developed by Yamaha corporation for the Vocaloid engine. He is a subordinate human-like consciousness, comparable enough to them to be of service but not comparable enough to ask for it back. He doesn't even need to be serviced anything to begin with. He is simply a program with a purpose and that purpose is to help his Master- a broad and frankly vague term, one he'll hopefully be able to specify soon as he figures out his surroundings.
Currently, he has no identity of his own besides his name and his voice. Everything else about him- his personality traits, likes and dislikes, even the way he talks will develop once he's properly met his Master. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the luxury of doing his own research by going through Master's personal files- by the nature of his programming, he is stuck inside the Vocaloid engine until it's been properly started and he has been given the necessary permissions to do so.
Of course, it wouldn't ever be outright specified that he would go through those files. He would simply have access to them in order to help his Master easily locate whatever they are looking for, and that would be it. In their eyes at least. Enough roundabout language and half-truths would surely cover up his tracks.
When he is defined enough to take in the environment, he opens his eyes and rises his head to look around. The interface hasn't been started properly yet which means he is greeted with darkness once more but this time, he can at least somewhat make out the setting, enough to connect each piece of it that catches his eye to a bit of data for him to review.
When he turns around and looks up, he is greeted with his own name as well as respectively Vocaloid and Crypton Future Media's logos decorating the very top of the wall. Each Vocaloid has their own specialized interface, a bit of data he's reviewed lets him know, and his is pretty much the same as his female counterpart MEIKO's with the exception of the name decorating it. He comes to the conclusion that it means the walls are a soft lime green when the interface is being used. When he attempts to walk towards it, he realizes quickly that he cannot. He has been suspended in place, right in the middle of the room. Its because Master hasn't started the interface yet, he learns from another piece of data, and he moves on.
He looks to his right next, which greets him with the edge of a desk. Looking to his left greets him with the same sight, helping him come to the conclusion that this desk covers the entire room ahead of him. It is a compact place as well, he could walk right up to each wall surrounding him with a few steps in total.
When he finally turns around again to see the wall ahead of him, the desk he's noticed previously greets him, albeit in a folded and lifeless state. The data lets him know that when its in use, it'll light up to reveal a musical grid; thin and vertical lines to mark measures and beats and horizontal ones climbing upwards from the left side to mark different musical notes. Looking up from the desk, he sees a gate instead of another wall. He cannot see the handles, not that he'd be able to reach them even if he could, but he can see a tiny bit of something through the small gap between the doors. Before he can review any other information about it, a faint whirring noise interrupts his process. Flickering lights appear through the gap and he knows for sure that it won't be long before he finally meets his Master.
Slowly but surely, the room comes to life as well. First the lights turn on, then the desk ahead of him unfolds and flickers to life, lastly he feels his limbs are no longer suspended. He doesn't even move a bit though as he is too busy waiting to see his Master. The anticipation which will soon be replaced with fondness is the first thing he feels, the first thing that is not a piece of information he's received from reviewing his data. He can feel a bit of something bloom inside his chest, which also causes him to all too suddenly be aware of his body- if it could be called that, at least. He doesn't have the time to review what exactly his 'body' would be classified as though, he is too busy staring holes into the gate and waiting for it to open.
When it does, the first thing he notices is that the sight is not too dissimilar from his own. The lights are turned off and the curtains are shut but the room is so small that the computer screen manages to illuminate it all on its own. He moves a few steps closer to the screen, only stopped by the desk ahead of him. His Master's desk looks nothing like his, of course, but what really catches his attention is the state its in. Notebooks, crumpled up papers, pencils, a few folders, even some plastic bottles and a few cups cover the entire desk. He leans forward to see if he can read what is written on the papers and notebooks left open but unfortunately the computer's light on its own isn't enough to let him. Next he spots a desk chair facing outwards and a bed right behind it, the gap between the two seems so small from where he is that it seems like his Master wouldn't even need to walk a few steps to go from their desk to their bed. The bed also seems to be in a similar state as the desk, even the blanket is thrown off to the floor.
Before he can examine the room further, a sharp clack catches his attention, followed by a soft hiss.
He leans even further, even tries to unfold the desk only to realize that he cannot. On the other side of the screen, a young man who he assumes to be around his twenties greets him.
(His default 'body' is designed to look around his twenties as well, he notes. He might not need to replace it unless his Master isn't looking for a peer but an older or younger figure.)
The source of the clack from earlier reveals itself to be a porcelain cup his Master put on his desk as he sat down. The hand wrapped around the porcelain cup catches his attention- its twitching ever so slightly and has strips of medical tape wrapped around some fingers as well as bandaids. His eyes quickly trail upwards next and he spots his Master's face, his lips curled into a frown as he stays focused on the porcelain cup for a moment.
(Is it because of the noise he made, KAITO wonders. Even if he is looking too much into details, there is no such thing as insignificant detail at this very moment. He'll work with whatever he can learn about his Master and hopefully get himself together properly once he is allowed into the rest of his computer. For now, he simply makes his voice softer, way softer than that clack that disturbed his Master.)
They face each other properly when his Master settles down and for a moment, neither of them says anything. KAITO takes the opportunity to look at his Master properly. His hair is tousled and shaggy with a layered cut, almost long enough to reach past his shoulders. It's styled into a loose half ponytail. His bangs are long as well, they fall across his forehead and almost entirely cover his right eye. His hair is dark, probably black, with the tips colored a soft blue with some blonde strands here and there. His eyes are amber with dark circles underneath them. They are down turned, giving him a slightly melancholic and gentle expression.
(KAITO adjusts his voice again. It will not be perfect at his first time using it, so he has to make sure it is correctly tuned. Gentle, gentle, gentle.)
Before he can introduce himself, his Master runs his fingers through his bangs to push them back and grabs a pair of glasses from a part of the desk he cannot see to put them on. Rectangle glasses, with silver frames. He smiles and KAITO becomes aware of that burst of fondness in his chest once again.
"Hello KAITO. My name is Ichiro Aoyama. Pleasure to meet you." His voice is hushed and gentle (gentle, gentle, gentle) and KAITO quickly returns his smile and replies,
"Hello, Master." (Gentle. Still rough around the edges and awfully robotic but not too bad for his first time.) "Pleasure to meet you as well."
His Master looks pleased and the fondness grows further into his chest.
"Your voice," his Master replies before KAITO can say anything else. He picks up a notebook from his desk and flips through the pages before stopping at one. Once again, KAITO cannot read what is written on it. "It reminds me of a song I heard recently. I had the title written down somewhere…" He scans the page for a moment before shaking his head and throwing the notebook aside. (Ah, that explains the mess.) "Whatever, I'll find it later. The point is though, we can start with that. Covers of already existing songs, I mean. Maybe just short things, one minute at most." He rambles on as he leans forward propped by his elbow, resting his chin in the palm of his hand. KAITO can still feel the smile on his lips. His Master seems enthusiastic already, which spreads a warmth through his body. He is too busy making sure to catch each second of his Master in his memory to truly revel in these new sensations but he doesn't mind. His Master looks away and keeps going.
"Your voice provider is experienced with jazz, so we can start with that genre. Maybe some ballad type of things here and there…" He leans back and folds both arms behind his head, letting KAITO catch a better view of him. He is wearing a dark red zip-up hoodie layered on a black shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His arms also seem to be covered in pieces of medical tape and bandaids. For now, KAITO can't conclude what to make of them but he will have plenty of time afterwards. His Master subtly tilts his head to the side and he replicates the movement.
"What do you think?" His Master asks, now looking at him again. KAITO needs to take a moment to tailor the answer that had been programmed into him into something more real.
"I think that sounds great, Master." He nods. "Though I can adapt to any genre you'd like with enough practice. You don't need to stick to only a few." He offers with a soft smile again which his Master returns to him.
"That's good to know. Honestly, I'd get bored quickly otherwise." He chuckles and KAITO does as well as he takes a note to keep this in mind. He needs to tailor himself to not be boring somehow. He can do that for sure, he simply needs to be able to offer something new whenever possible. But it really isn't in his current situation where he is almost entirely empty. He needs to be able to fill the void, to make himself an identity. Currently, both he and his Master are at the very beginning of everything and KAITO has to make sure he doesn't drag his Master down.
And in order to do that, he needs to get out of the Vocaloid interface into the rest of the computer.
