Piper x Mateo
The information had gotten to her pretty quickly. Maybe a little bit longer, because she wasn’t an emergency contact. A few days it had taken, based on what she heard. She wasn’t sure why, probably because as Kaia’s mother she was one of Mateo’s secondary contacts. She imagined Elsa was first on that list. But if something happened, she knew it was important to Mateo that she be in on the know. She’d been just putting Kaia to bed when she’d gotten the call. Mateo had been shot. He wasn’t in good shape either. She was moving rather quickly. She swept Ella and Kaia from bed, getting them ready. She tried not to show her face around Kaia, but she was genuinely terrified. They’d talk later, once she knew what type of conversation it was going to be. It was only a half an hour that it took her dropping Kaia and Ella off to the teacher’s house. Her go to sitter was the woman who had fostered Kaia. She’d taught Piper a lot about motherhood, and even now Piper was grateful to her. And then she was gone, speeding a little too fast to the hospital and pushing past the doors. All the politeness of a princess gone and forgotten. She was just a woman now, terrified for someone she considered her best friend. The brunette soon found herself coming into Mateo’s room, pushing aside the privacy curtain carefully. “Matty?” She asked carefully. “You don’t mind if I come in?” A rarely seen compassion was in her face, and the slightest bit of fear shone clear in her eyes.
