I should be grateful I have a great boyfriend who buys me flowers and takes to dinner on my anniversary and who loves me so and feels he doesn't need to express emotions with expensive gifts and yet....

because I was raised in an environment where my parents had wealth and would "express" their affection with lavish gifts and expensive things I have come to believe my boyfriend only truly loves me when he spoils me rotten in material things. And those other tender moments such as kisses and warm hugs are all fancy but useless extras of relationships.

It is sickening how in my father-daughter relationship where I was spoiled with delicious presents and great gifts, I expect a man in my life to do that as well. All materials gifts will go to waste such as the flowers he bought me. For flowers like all material gifts are already dead when bought.
