In this age, people are generally influenced by the lower modes, the modes of ignorance and passion. In these modes, we are not able to serve Krishna. It is our constitutional position to serve someone, but when we do not serve Krishna, we serve maya.
In the twelfth century, fish had already made their mark on the lansdcape. All along the Danish, Swedish, and Slav coasts, the people who dared live there were usually fishermen, collected into the huddle of huts, drying-poles, and sheds which was called fiskegard… the organisation and development of fisheries was a matter of politics… Already in the twelfth century the piscatura was a form of lordship along the coast, on rivers and lakes… The fish itself was an acceptable token of power and could be paid in tribute or tithe; the islanders of Oland, off southeast Sweden, make their sole acknowledgement of loyalty to the king at Uppsala by sending him an annual present of herring, and in the 1170s Bishop Absalon of Roskilde let the Slavs of Rugen present him with a single fish in recognition of his sea-patrols… When the warriors of the king of Poland reached the Pomeranian coast in 1107 they sang of their conquest in these terms: Salted fish and stinking, once they brought us from afar, Now the boys have caught ‘em fresh, and all alive they are!

Day-Consciousness
Awake
"In the books by Jozef Rulof day-consciousness refers to: the consciousness that we possess when we are awake. We are then aware of the surroundings which we perceive by means of our [physical] senses. With this consciousness, we experience the experiences of the day.
In this consciousness, we are also conscious to a certain extent of our own inner world, our feelings and our thoughts. If our life of feeling has something to say, then it pushes up the feelings to our day-consciousness and we can consciously express those feelings and act according to them.
We can also experience something of our past lives in our day-consciousness. For example, we see something on television and think: ‘Hey, I know that!’ At that moment the African, American or another life can be conscious in us, at that moment the past life that we experienced there is part of our day-consciousness for so many percent. That can be very fleeting, but also permanent in the form of an aptitude, talent or gift.
Recovery of day-consciousness
When we go to sleep, we gradually discard this day-consciousness. We become less and less aware of our surroundings, until we have fallen into a deep sleep. In the sleep the tension which has occurred in the nervous system by means of the experiences during the day is discharged.
During the sleep the soul analyses what has entered the life of feeling, and by means of dreaming, what has no value goes overboard. Those dreams serve to restore the day-consciousness, in order to be able to gain new experiences the following morning, day-conscious and well rested. During sleep, the soul can better ensure her rest and harmony than during the day-consciousness.
Beyond the day-consciousness
Sleepwalking shows that the human being can also act outside the day-consciousness. At that moment, it is important not to touch or to disturb the sleepwalker in his actions, because that could cause a nervous shock. For that matter, while sleepwalking, the human being does not act in the day-consciousness, as a result of which he has no resistance to events which take place outside his consciousness, such as the touching of his body.
During his [spirit/soul] leaving the body, Jozef Rulof experiences that he can also feel, think and act outside his day-consciousness in the hereafter. The term day-consciousness is therefore only used in order to indicate the consciousness in the physical existence on earth. However, the soul has an eternal consciousness which transcends this one physical life."

It is the duty of a householder to receive guests or atithis, even if a guest be an enemy. The word atithi refers to one who comes without an invitation. When a guest comes to one's home, one should properly receive him by standing up and offering him a seat.
As a householder, we should welcome all the guests in a good manner. Afterall it is the duty of householder to receive guests and offer them a seat and at least a glass of water. It doesn’t matter if the guest is your enemy, you should treat them as your guest only.

Lightning Dust, aka Amber Webber and Joshua Wells, have been quietly releasing beautifully ornate folksy rock records since 2007. The two former members of Black Mountain started Lightning Dust while still in the Canadian stoner/doom/prog rock outfit, using the project as a means to write more pop-oriented material.
Webber’s vocals are one-of-a-kind, putting her in a category with giants like…
