Is anybody on here good with math?? It’s college precalc and it’s finding horizontal/vertical transformations of functions. It’s not too hard, I just can’t seem to figure a problem out. If you could help me, please message me! I would appreciate it greatly!! <3

Hello, I'm entering first year science and thinking of deferring my integral calculus (Math 103) to second year. Have you heard of anyone doing this before and is it odd? Other than that I'm taking all the general science courses for first year. Also, I plan to major in either biology or CAPS.

As long as you meet promotion requirements and specialization admission pre-reqs, you should be good! I have a friend in Biology who took Math 105 in the summer after first year.

Okay thanks! Do we need to understand any economic/ business concepts in Math 104/105? (Also I noticed they no longer have the extra lab section in math 102/ 103)

Yes, you do have to understand a bit, my friend who was in Biology with me took Math 184/105 and said there were a few times where she had trouble understanding the material in class because she wasn’t familiar with some of the applications. That being said, I don’t think it’ll be a huge detriment.

TIP: math 105 was definitely not 'easier' than the other math courses ... although math 101 might be a little more rigorous because of its physical applications, the multivariable calculus found in math 105 makes things even out! the averages are not too different.

Is MATH 104/105 still considered the easier math since I heard they made it harder now? Im entering science first year and I am HORRIBLE at math

You might be good at calculus, you’ll never know until you try! ;P 

Yes, I’ve heard at least Math 104 is still considered the “easiest”, but the curriculum for Math 105 has changed, so there are mixed reviews! 

FYI: You don’t have to do the two as a pair, you could always mix it up haha.

do you know if they scale math 105? i think i legitimately failed :( the class averages for the 2 midterms were 64% and 48%

I’m sorry to hear that! I’m not sure, usually when class averages are that low, they tend to try to smooth it out, but don’t bet your money on it because it’s not always the case.
