Eine Top-Adresse an der Nahe - Das Weingut Mathern

Das Weingut Mathern liegt in Niederhausen, einem 600 Einwohner Dorf, wenige Kilometer südwestlich von Bad Kreuznach. Auf mehr als 4.000 ha Fläche werden im rheinland-pfälzischen Weinanbaugebiet Nahe hauptsächlich weiße Rebsorten angebaut. Durch die große Bodenvielfalt ist der Nahewein in seiner Eleganz sehr beliebt. Funde belegen, dass bereits die Römer in dieser Gegend Wein anbauten. Das Gebiet ist insbesondere für seinen Riesling bekannt, eine der wichtigsten Weißweinrebsorten in Deutschland.


1907 wurde das Weingut von Oskar und Luise Mathern als gemischter Landwirtschaftsbetrieb gegründet. Nach seinem Weinbau-Studium wurde es von Sohn Helmut als Weingut weiter geführt und ausgebaut. 1997 kürte es der bekannte Weinführer Gault Millau als „Entdeckung des Jahres“. Zahlreiche Auszeichnungen folgten. 2002 verstarb Helmut Mathern an einem Krebsleiden. Seine Witwe Gloria, eigentlich gelernte Innenarchitektin, beschloss nach kurzer Überlegung die Winzerei im Sinne ihres Mannes fort zu setzen und den guten Namen zu erhalten. Seit 2010 steht ihr der Kellermeister Felix Eberhard zur Seite, der für die Qualität der Weine verantwortlich ist. Mittlerweile betreibt das Weingut Mathern auf zehn Hektar den Anbau hochwertiger Naheweine und vermarktet diese direkt über die Flasche an Privatkäufer und einige auserwählte Händler und Restaurants Deutschlandweit. International exportiert das Weingut nach England, Norwegen, in die Niederlande und in die USA. Auf der Webseite des Weinguts können die Weine im Onlineshop erworben werden.

Die Weine stammen aus erstklassigen „Gran Cru“ Steillagen unterschiedlichen Vulkangesteins, wie zum Beispiel Grauschiefer, Porphyr oder Melaphyr, die den Weinen ihre Namen geben. Die exquisite Lage der Parzellen sorgt zusammen mit dem entsprechenden Know-How der Gutsherrin und ihrem Team für qualitativ erstklassige Weine. Trotzdem bleiben die Preise moderat und für jeden erschwinglich. In der Schatzkammer des Weinkellers findet man ausgezeichnete Raritäten, die bis in die 1980er Jahre reichen.

Gloria Mathern ist es gelungen, das Weingut zu einer Topadresse für Naheweine zu machen. Aushängeschild sind ihre berühmten und für ihre Vielseitigkeit preisgekrönten Rieslinge. Weißburgunder, Müller-Thurgau oder Dornfelder runden das breit gefächerte Angebot ab. Daneben findet man auch eine kleine Auswahl an Likören oder Sekt. 2007 wurde die Niederhäuser Rosenberg Riesling Auslese als beste Auslese an der Nahe für den „Edelschliff“ ausgewählt und mit der Goldenen Kammerpreismünze ausgezeichnet. Die Abfüllung erfolgt in ganz besonderen, blauen Flaschen, verziert mit einem Edelstein.

2005 kaufte Gloria Mathern ein 150 Jahre altes Schulgebäude. Der Sandsteinbau aus dem letzten Jahrhundert schließt direkt an das Grundstück der Gutsherrin an. Sie ließ es komplett sanieren und richtete geschmackvoll es als Gästehaus her. Die liebevoll eingerichteten Appartements, in denen insgesamt elf Personen Platz finden, laden ein, etwas länger zu verweilen und den charmanten Ort und seine reizvolle Landschaft besser kennen zu lernen. 

2012 wurde das Gästehaus vom DTV mit 4 Sternen klassifiziert. Besucher haben nun endlich die Möglichkeit, nach einer Verkostung edler Weine in Niederhausen zu übernachten. Aber auch wer Lust auf einen Kurzurlaub hat oder eine Weinreise plant, ist hier richtig. Denn das Weingut Mathern in Niederhausen ist in allen wichtigen Weinführern, wie dem Gault Millau, dem Feinschmecker oder dem Eichelmann, zu finden und Weinliebhaber können hier tolle Weine bester Qualität probieren.
