My total wordcount is 109,516 words. But as I am still editing and as I only wrote about 36k of those words in November, I'm not hugely pleased. However, this volume is my biggest by far, and tells a (hopefully) interesting story.
Tirum made a face at Kandry from across the room. Kandry shook her head and yelled, “HE'S MAKING FACES AGAIN!”
Cyche turned to Tave and said, “It's your turn tonight.” Tave grinned in a long-suffering manner and stood up from the table. Tirum made another face at Kandry and waved his arms in strange formations at her. Kandry curled up on the small couch and made a face at her brother. Tave sat down beside her and put his arm around her.
“Kandry, Tirum was on the other side of the room. He couldn't have poked you,” Tave explained. Kandry shook her head and buried her face in Tave's shoulder.
“I don't like him, he's a meanie, and he likes pancakes!” Kandry said loudly into his shoulder. Tave grinned and patted her back.
“Don't you like apple pancakes?” Tave asked her. Kandry shook her head and wrapped her arms around Tave's neck. Tirum rolled his eyes and started making drum sounds on his stomach. Aside from a cloth diaper, Tirum refused to wear clothes at night. Cyche had tried insisting that he was too old for a diaper, and he had been potty-trained, but he continued to wear it.
Kandry, on the other hand, would go around with layers of clothes on even on the hottest days of the year and would never go out without a jacket. Even if she never wore it.
After thinking about it for a while, I've decided that I might write a few more scenes, maybe, but I might not write any more at all. All of my stories have some sort of redeeming quality. Kyle and Alyx fall in love. They learn how to get along. Mirinah figures out what the worth of her life is. She realizes that helping people is worth the cost. Terrance learns how to be a dad. Max realizes that he has what it takes. Tave recognizes that people will see evil where there is none. Cyche concludes that everyone has a monster inside they have to fight.
What does Jason bring but more suffering and destruction? Purgance is about the decline of a man into something lesser. An intelligent beast. There's not much redeeming about that. The story is dark, and frought with violent scenes and messages that I don't want to spread. Jason's thoughts are destructive and dark to their core. His views on life and religion and love are horrible and come from thought patterns so engraved into his core that they might as well be considered irreversible.
I can't write that for long. I don't want to. I won't anymore.
I feel like this could be a long post, and I'll probably talk quite a bit about a lot of stuff in here.
I'm working on so much and haven't touched most of it for a while. I want to continue writing, but I feel as if I might need to dump everything and focus singularly on something entirely new. At least for a little while. I think I might start working on The Fall of Orotius. Everything spawns from this single story. It lays the foundation for the Virus in Impact, it sets the foundation for The Fall of Hope, The Fall of Tirre, and Matreci, and it leads the reader to realize that this series will spawn across hundreds of years. It shows that the people on Tirre started on Vita Nova, hundreds of years before anyone else had space travel. They start their journey to Tirre from Vita Nova and leave a large station overhead that terraforms the planet so that if someone else finds it, there will be enough resources to sustain them as the planet had sustained the original inhabitants for so long.
Once they arrive on Tirre, they start to build, and using advanced technology, they're able to quickly make an empire in just under 20 years. After that, the real story starts, with Jadec passing through the marketplace. From Jadec, everything spreads. He's one of the Matreci ancestors, back when the Matrix was actually just a much smaller engine that limited the abilities to themselves only. Jadec is invisible. And from his line spawns Mirinah. He has two markings, one on each arm, and each one is made up of slightly different colors. One is basically a mood ring. The other controls and regulates his power, which is invisibility.
The terraforming station they left on Vita Nova creates a supervirus that imbues itself into every living creature. A huge meteor smashes into the station and carries it and all of the pieces into a far off nebula, where they collide into a star.
After this, the events return to Tirre, where Jadec finds a girl that can see him. She dies the next day. The only other girl that can see him, a young woman named Kismara, thinks that she has gone insane, to her dismay. Jadec doesn't know for sure if that's what she thinks, and so never tries to comfort her. Eventually he knocks over a pot on accident nearby and everyone turns to look. She is the only one that can see him grimace in frustration at his carelessness, and he runs away. Kismara follows him and they meet and talk for the first time. From here, their relationship starts.
It's rocky at first, but eventually Kismara and Jadec fall in love. From there, they marry and have a baby named Kim.
“Yes. I know. I love him.” Cyche said absently. She grabbed Tave's right hand in her left and said, “If you die on me, Tave, I'm going to go to the afterlife and drag you back here!”
Mirinah and Kariah glanced from Tave to Cyche and put the obvious together.
SPOILER WARNING. RETREAT NOW IF YOU'RE NOT CURRENT.
Mirinah and Cyche revive Tave. They all gather around and Tanu explains some of what's been happening. Cyche and Tave kiss, FINALLY. Tave apologizes for everything he did that might have hurt her. Cyche accepts his apology and kisses him.
They figure out that there's an underwater tunnel that goes from the island back to the mainland of Tirre. Mirinah leads the way, her memory of the tunnels proves reliable.
They go down the long tunnel, but it's so long that they aren't able to traverse all of it. They don't have any food, and Tave is starting to shut down. Cyche and Mirinah, along with a few other of Mirinah's descendants, all heal him. Tave falls into a deep sleep and Cyche becomes the main viewpoint.
They travel farther down the tunnel after a 6 hour sleeping period and eventually find a staircase. They go up it and work together to pull a huge lever. The fountain in the middle of the city collapses and they climb up a ladder and find themselves in the middle of the Bubble.
They come out one at a time, and the entire city gathers to watch them. Mirinah climbs out first. Tave wakes up at the bottom of the ladder and climbs up next. The crowd studies Mirinah intently and they finally realize that it's THE MIRINAH. The one that Lord Jeff talked about extensively in his journal.
The Kresskari come from the crowd and try to kill Mirinah, but Tave and Evelyn stop them. Tanu questions the Kresskari and they reveal that they've hidden an entire 100 year segment from everyone. Mirinah has slept for 300 years, not 200. Then they reveal that there are multiple people that have left the planet over the years.
Mirinah and the others establish a new hierarchy and the Kresskari are outed. It jumps several years into the future. Tave is married to Cyche, who is pregnant. They live on the island off the coast of Tirre, in a little shack. Mirinah is visiting them when the house bursts into flame. They come outside and find a small dissident group, remnants of the Riscilian, who are attacking them.
Tave has had plenty of time to mature, and his Matreci powers are now in awesome force. The ground rocks and pillars of flame erupt beneath the feet of the Riscilian. A ship descends from the sky and a man named Terrance comes out of the ship, along with a girl named Kira, who wears a blindfold.
Terrance explains that the planet is dying, and that in two or three years, the entire planet will explode, and that wouldn't be so bad, but a giant meteor is coming to smack into the planet right now, and if they don't evacuate then, everyone is going to die.
Mirinah, Tave, and Cyche tell Terrance and Kira to fly just outside the Bubble. The three of them go inside and tell everyone the news. Almost no one believes them, until the ground rumbles and Terrance comes inside. He doesn't have a Matrix and doesn't have clothing that looks like anything anyone else is wearing.
300 people are able to board the ship. The rest refuse to leave, for one reason or another, and Terrance leaves them.
The story ends with Cyche in labor inside the ship.
Matreci is the story of this guy named Tave. Everything is going fine, until people start finding out that his soul is literally half darkness and half light. Everyone wigs out and they banish him. He joins a rebel group and, along with his best friend, try to find and wake a 200+ year-old healer named Mirinah.
