It was custom that two newly-engaged Uchiha to sit down in private and discuss their future. No matter their station or their power, be they shinobi or civilian, this was tradition. Even Madara, the black sheep of a clan head that he was, did not disregard this.
Sakuya didn’t come dressed in a nice kimono, as her sister recommended. Nor did she pin her hair back or do much in the way of making herself prettier or more desirable. This was, she reasoned, Izuna-sama’s fault in the first place. He would receive her in her plain mantle and sandals, because that was the kind of wife he was going to get anyway.
Since Madara was clan head, this couldn’t be just done in a little tent in the middle of nowhere. They had to wait until the war camp migrated back to the main Uchiha clan grounds, and have it all take place in the big house dedicated to the patriarch. They were given a nice room, one with tapestries and fresh tatami mats, and the good tea set was brought out, the one that Sakuya only saw during alliance negotiations. The ceramic was as thin as paper and it covered in gold-painted cranes. She was rather hesitant to touch it at all.
The screen door snapped shut and footsteps tapped away. Sakuya waited, just a little bit, before she spoke. She really had one burning question on her tongue, one she’d been thinking over and over in her head since Madara-sama first called her in and blandly informed her of his brother’s intentions.
"Izuna-sama, I’m quite honored that you chose me... but are you actually sure about this?”
