BJJ Tournament Recap - Matshark San Antonio Open
By TXMMA Staff | BJJ Tournament Photos
Carlos Diego Ferreira and Jason Soliz shine in largest Matshark tournament yet
SAN ANTONIO, TX, April 28, 2014 – It was the busier day ever for Rafael Perez and Matshark.TV Tournaments this past Saturday. Rafael and crew hosted this year’s edition of the Matshark San Antonio Open at Woodlawn Gym and it ended up being their largest tournament yet with over 400 grapplers showed up for a full day of competition.
The event also included prize money awarded in the black belt and expert classes so it drew some top names, including RGV’s Carlos Diego Ferreira (Team Ferreira) and Houston’s Jason Soliz (Third Coast MMA) amongst many others. Ferreira once again won the big prize money after competing in the finals against Alex Martins. For his part Martins fought injured (upper leg) but still did the best he could. Coming in third with his own strong performance was Jose Portillo of Paragon Austin. Meanwhile Soliz had perhaps the most technical match of the day with his entertaining roll against brown belt Albert Magno and also won his share of prize money in the nogi expert division.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s Matshark Texas State Championship; Highlighting the kids from the tournament’s last visit to San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO, TX, July 12, 2013 – The Matshark Texas State Championship is tomorrow, July 13th at the Woodlawn Gym in San Antonio, TX.
Promoted by Rafael Perez, this event is expected to be Matshark’s annual flagship tournament of the year and will feature several pro superfight divisions for both men and women in the purple, brown, and black belt divisions in various weight classes. Likewise, there’s also going to be a teen superfight bracket as well featuring some of the top teens in Texas so it should get pretty interesting.
We’ll be there covering all the action for this event as part of our TXMMA Tournament Session and it should be another exciting one following their Dallas Submission Pro event held in DFW just a few weeks ago and their last San Antonio BJJ event held at Woodlawn Gym this past April.
In preparation for tomorrow, let’s take a look back at some highlight photos from the kids division of the 2013 Matshark SA Open Pro then make sure to stay tuned here to TXMMA.com for complete event coverage of the
