I wasn't originally going to write anything, and then I did, but also I didn't finish it in time for his birthday either because (surprise surprise/s) it also ended up getting longer than the original idea
So, I present a snippet ("snippet")! Xion just posted a snippet from their fic for their au, and this happens to be based on that same au of theirs
It is currently coded as "the cookies fic"

He sighs loudly as he pulls his head from the counter and turns to lean back against it instead. Everything is always more tiring when Watari is gone. Hanging out with his friends—a group of rich wives, mostly of prominent CEOs—is the most reprieve he's had thus far, but it’s just been one of those days. Their little group had been more than a little drama filled today, and they'd prodded a bit too much into his life for gossip. He'd been glad his day out was over before he'd remembered that someone needed to go grocery shopping.
Ah, well… At least I can relax for a bit, right? I just have to manage to put up the groceries and maybe I can… Well, there's always the couch, and I have been meaning to continue one of those books I promised to read…
He's almost done this time, right? This time. Light should still be occupied for a little while longer, and the two of them could collaborate on dinner. If he just puts up these groceries—doesn't even entertain the instinct to sit down, which would lead to procrastination—he could have an hour or two to relax.
You just have to–
"Ah, Matsuda-san. You're back."

Wordlessly, Touta turns his head in the direction of the voice. He knows who it is before he sees the man sitting at the dining room table, click clack clacking at his laptop in the dimming light. The corners of Touta's mouth upturn just slightly when the voice hits his ears, but, almost in anticipation for something, his heart falls just slightly.
Ryuzaki hadn't even looked up at Touta as he'd spoken, and, even though Touta knows he doesn't control his tone, it had been flat as usual rather than excited. Again, Touta doesn't blame him. L probably doesn't mean to seem uninterested in his return. It's just that Touta just can't shake this feeling. Subconsciously, after giving his attention to Ryuzaki, he'd held a breath, as if waiting to see what he's going to say—or ask.
L continues, perhaps due to the fact that he'd gotten Touta's attention, or because he’d assumed Touta would be listening by now.
"I seem to be craving cookies for the time being. Unfortunately, Watari is also still out."

Maybe in the past Touta would've been left clueless at such a statement. He might have simply apologized for Ryuzaki's circumstances or just acknowledged that he heard it. By now, though, he knows that this is a "subtle" hint on Ryuzaki's part that he wants something.
Touta sighs, then, exasperation leaking into his tone. "Did–"
L stops typing, but his eyes stay trained on the laptop's screen as he interrupts, "I do confess that I ate the rest of the final package, but that's not the point."
Touta's eyes flit to the grocery bags, then back to Ryuzaki. What L had mentioned is an easy fix—Touta had remembered while he was out that they were nearly out of the packaged cookies, so he'd bought more—but that second bit…
Not the point? Don't tell me…
Any other time, Touta wouldn't mind baking something for Ryuzaki—he's well aware how fundamentally different it is to have something made fresh versus store bought—but right now, he just…

He's had such a long day. It’s raining outside, and, after putting up the groceries, he really just wants to curl up into the couch while the fire is going and–
"Is it too much to ask, Touta-chan?" Ryuzaki looks up from his computer as he says this, eyes locking onto Touta's.
L was referring to the possibility of Touta baking cookies. It's clear enough, from the deliberate way he's looking at Touta to how he'd said his name, that the store bought stuff "just won't do" this time. Of course, it's not as if Touta couldn't refuse. He had before, and L yet lived, found something else to sate his sweet tooth and stimulate his brain. It's just that, well…
Aaaaaaaaaaaaah, Ryuzaki-san is just… Too cute…
Perhaps in hindsight, he'd wish he'd stood his ground, but Touta is already tired, and L had played his move. So, in response to Ryuzaki’s question, Touta begins to wave his arms.
"No, no, of course it's not too much to ask. I'm sure you've had a long day, so…"
Touta doesn't miss the way the corners of L's lips just slightly turn upwards at that. "Thank you."
