Matsunosuke, the amazing pancake place
So here's a review on this amazing pancake place I dined in yesterday in Greenwich Village!!!
Place: Matsunosuke
Address: 58 W 8th St, New York, NY 10011
Thoughts of the place:
It's a small Japanese bakery store, so there won't be much place to sit. However, the overall structure of the place feels very cozy and soothing. Not to mention that rabbit design that they have is pretty unique and cute. The place is very nicely decorated, fresh and clean. It also gives a very comfortable vibe. Cashiers give out pretty cute ribbon tags for your order. Service wise, cashiers there are generally nice so all of you should just chill and just order ;) OH and for students, definitely a must-go. IF you show them your ID, you will get 10% off from the overall price of what you get, so definitely a benefit for us ;)
Now the Food...
Since this was my first time here, I tried their signature pancakes. I ordered the Chiffon pancakes (which is a very fluffy, moist cakes, so it will be thicker and bigger but also lighter than your usual pancakes). They come in two choices: either Azuki or Banana Carmel.
I tried out the Banana Carmel and the first impression of it. OMG Looks AMAZING. A beautiful pancake that I haven't seen ever since my visit in Tokyo last winter. I took bite out of it. BEST THING IN THE WORLD. I felt like I was in heaven eating this pancake. It was deliciously light and fluffy. The pancake strikes the perfect balance of sugar and consistency, thus you'll actually crave for more. Since the portion is very Japanese portion, it may not be enough for most people especially with the lack of any other sides like sausage or bacon. Though, great creamy texture and the slices of bananas are something to die for with a good combo of the caramel (it's there for you to dip the pancakes) and the chiffon pancake. However, they do take a bit of time, but worth the wait.
Final thought...
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the environment I ate in and the pancakes are something to die for. Next time when I crave for pancakes, I'll definitely come here especially with my student discount. The price of the pancake is a bit expensive (around $13) and with the purchase of teas (usually $3), but if you're a student, it's something that you should try out once in a while.
