Finale
I never thought I’d see this day. Not once did it enter the back of mind that one of my favorite Youtube channels would eventually halt and stop making let’s plays. Realistically, I knew. But I never once believed that it would happen. Especially with the way that it did.
For those of you who are wondering what I’m talking about, Super Best Friends Play, aka one of the best let’s play channels ever, is ending. The video they put up today began with a very sad and somber Woolie, informing us that the channel was indeed ending. Not just because of the business aspect of it, but also because Matt and Pat aren’t really friends anymore.
That bit right there. Hurt me a bit. The two of them not being friends anymore, despite their differences, really caught me off guard. I guess when it comes down to it, the signs of them not really enjoying each other’s company were there, but no one truly wanted to believe it.
I still remember when I first found the channel too, it was one of Matt’s “Matt Buys too Much Crap” videos. That lead me to his and Pat’s iconic Silent Hill: DownPour LP. One of the very first LPs I even bothered to full watch through. I connected with them because, they were like me. They loved good stuff, hated bad stuff, and knew how to make good jokes about the bad things in a video game.
Then they brought Woolie into the mix, a third man to this party, with Super Best Friends Brawl. One of the funniest salty game series ever made, which eventually was replaced by Friday Night Fisticuffs. While he might be a bumbling goofball at times, Woolie was always one I looked forward to hearing in a video.
Then the fourth man, Liam, was brought aboard. While I may not have always agreed with Liam’s view points on things, especially the PSVita, he knew his stuff. And he always was the one that was able to argue Pat back and make him look like a fool.
For years, these guys brought me a lot of laughs. Especially in 2014-15/6 when I was going through pretty bad part of my life that I’d rather not talk, or mention, again. If you’ve been following me for that long, you probably know what I am talking about.
Then came the end of 2016. Liam announcing that he was leaving the channel. Omikron nearly KILLED the friendship between the original trio, and Trump was going to be President. It felt like the dagger of the finale had been stabbed into the chest of the channel, but no one truly knew or wanted to believe that.
For two years the channel remained true to what it was. Dumb LPs with a lot of laughs and a lot of great moments in games. Hell, when I saw that they were doing Kingdom Hearts 1, one of my all time favorite video games ever, I got really excited to see what stupidity could be had from Matt and Woolie, and their reactions to certain moments in that game.
And then today.
What really hurts the most though is just, the fact that Matt and Pat aren't friends anymore. It’s ironic. The two guys who started the channel’s popularity, the two guys who basically gave life to Two Best Friends Play, two guys who had polar opposite views on certain things, but got along anyway, are no longer friends. That just, doesn’t feel nor sound right to anyone. I get that friends have falling outs, but at times you could tell that Matt and Pat were basically like brothers. Hell, you would have thought that they were actually blood brothers by the way they were hanging out and making jokes with one another that was on key.
I don’t think I’m gonna point fingers at one of the trio and blame anyone for the fall of the channel. The less drama there is about that, the better. But it saddens me to hear that the youtube channel that helped me out of a bad depression in my life, a channel that introduced me to so many games and franchises, is now coming to an end.
To that I say this.
@realestmatt and @excelsioryuken, and even Pat (I don’t think he has a tumblr) you guys were some of the best dudes someone could watch and have a good time with. I’m sorry for a lot of the crap some fans threw at you in videos, especially KH1 and the Souls series, and I am truly sorry to hear that you guys aren’t doing Super Best Friends Play anymore. You guys to me, will always be the hypest dudes on youtube.
Thank you so much for many years of laughter, for many years of introducing me to new things, and for broadening my interests more than I would have known.
You said you gave us nothing? No. You gave us so many things. Thank you, all of you.
