For the future thoughts + Spoilers
( I keep coming back to the thought of how messed up it is that Kikimora absolutely used Boscha’s loneliness to push back Matt’s smarter ideas since giving him any form of power would ruin any plan she had to control these kids. I’m not really sure what shes winning by doing that though. Same for Boscha, where keeping her in trauma instead of realizing Matt’s potential to be a co-leader, just allowing and even making them fight on the daily and the rest suffered for it too.
I find it fascinating overall that this gave us the development that was likely cut from other episode concepts where Matt is shown to be intelligent in planning and living given all of his capable schedules and ideas. Even the simple idea of having a group manage food so they could all not fight because hes probably tired of fighting. He saw enough at Glandus and the way ‘Mickey’ ran things was like glandus.
Matt’s overall themes and goals have largely been the desire to be taken seriously or be strong not in a physical sense but a respect sense. He looks up to steve as a respectable person and others respect steve alot. It’s horribly misguided in his attempts though because he thinks he has to have this face of constantly being impressive when the true strength came from him being himself. He was himself around Jerbo, and towards the end given a chance he was himself in making a great plan to fight keeping kiki busy while the others escaped. He looks so much happier being taken seriously and not being constantly brushed off.
Mattholomule was never weak. He’s intelligent in planning and knowing how to think but everyone judged him by the skills he wasn’t great at. He isn’t good on his feet but if you asked him to design he’d give you more than you even asked for.
As much as it is funny he’s drawn on his face to appear more mature, I think he genuinely is just tired of being beaten down and told to shut up or assumed scrawny, weak and stupid. I think Matt deserves some genuine praise for what he can do. )
People think I be joking about my phone calls being long. What’s funnier is these calls both had about another half hour before they ended, and it’s like this e v e r y t i m e I talk to them. I love my friends
