Pee-wee as Himself dir. Matt Wolf (2025)
Born on this day in Peekskill, New York: comedic visionary Paul Reubens (27 August 1952 – 30 July 2023), the genius creator of madcap man-child character, adored kitsch icon and pop culture fixture Pee-wee Herman. If you haven’t watched it already, the 2025 documentary Pee-wee as Himself by Matt Wolf is an absolute must. (Not ashamed to admit I watched it through a veil of tears). Pictured: portrait of Reubens by Herb Ritts, 1987.
🎭 W A T C H I N G 🎭
This film's story is driven almost entirely by a one-to-one interview with Paul Reubens himself, but it was not released until almost two years after his death in July 2023.

I’m late, but that ‘Pee-wee as Himself’ documentary by Matt Wolf is really good.
Louise Hay from "Another Hayride" (2021)
As the AIDS epidemic took hold in the early 1980s, self-help guru Louise Hay created a space for healing called the Hayride. Drawing hundreds of gay men confronting a deadly and stigmatized disease, Louise believed they could overcome AIDS through self-love. In the face of a deadly pandemic and government neglect, resilience takes unusual forms, and for Louise Hay’s circle, intimate forms of reckoning were transformative.
