Two throwback photos from Bruce Waddell, both from the 2016 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships.

The first is another version of this photo, with 2016 novice silver medallist Olivia Gran included. The second features novice skaters from Ontario. L-R in the back are Corey Circelli, Matthew Markell, Jack Dushenski. L-R in the front are Aurora Cotop, Stephen, Bruce, Iliya Kovler, and Natalie.

Everyone in the second photo is now skating in senior except Natalie, who is no longer doing singles, but is competing in junior ice dance with Bruce.

I wanted to share something amusing I ran across while trying to sort out files. I have Stephen’s warm ups from the 2020 World Junior Championships recorded and happened to click the video for the SP warm up. To my surprise, one of the songs that was playing was Repeat After Me, Stephen’s SP music for this season. We didn’t know it then, but we got a promo of what was to come back in March.

The ISU’s video has part of the six minute warm up muted, but you can hear the song playing here. I am wondering now if this was what prompted Stephen to select the song. Or maybe Shae-Lynn chose it and Stephen does not even remember this warm up. We will likely not be finding out, but at least you guys can have some idea of what the song will sound like in a big arena with spectators.

second lovely matthew of the day— he skates with such intentional musicality and his lines are great, great takeoffs, and i thought his posture in the middle of the combo was noticeably excellent
